Creta Mare Hotel

Excellent location

The views from here are excellent, the rooms are big and equipped with all things necessary for a nice trip: spacious bathroom, very generous balcony, strong AC, fridge with decent freezer unit, and furnishings. The rooms are south-facing. There's a tavern, two buildings eastward, who's the last one to grill using firewood, so their meats taste very special. For the breakfast included option, there's a spacious terrace with two cats entertaining the eating, and the food, although not too varied, is enough to get you started for the day. The keepers are very friendly and I recommend this for all Romanians, as you'll get along nicely with them, in their native language. Located at the edge of the station, it's very quiet compared to the rowdy east side, and it's close to sweet-shop, fish tavern and supermarket.

I liked the hotel, and my less positive opinion is more related to Plakias - the beach in the area is more suitable for sun-bathing as opposed to sea-bathing, as the free beach belonging to the hotel is set in a rocky, area with coarse sand. For beaching, I either suggest the East part of Plakias (not without it's issues, as a belt of underwater rocks separates the shore from the very nice and long swimming area) or a drive to nearby instagrammable beaches towards Amoudi (search online for more info).

Nothing to complain, but the hotel is quite dated now so don’t expect new and modern forniture in the room and common areas. Breakfast was very simple but ok.

Great place in a fantastic quiet location. Crete Mare is almost at the far end of Plakias but is only a couple of minutes walk to the main street along the sea front. The room was lovely with a great view out over the sea and breakfast was excellent. We'd definitely stay here again.

The shower was cold in the morning but hot by late afternoon.

Fantastic location overlooking the sea with great sun terrace and unforgettable sunsets. By far, my most comfortable and luxurious room in Crete. Beach in front, tavernas, cafes, etc all closeby. Breakfast area and terrace and extremely friendly hosts.
