Can Vilafort

I think I must be on a different planet to all the other people who have left reviews! I had such high expectations of this place and virtually none of the were met. The village is delightful and the lodging is a lovely old building built out of gold coloured stone and with pretty windows. But there the superlatives stop. The unit could not have been more sparsely furnished. A wooden table and chairs, a sofa and a cabinet with a flat screened TV. The bed, up a rather charming spiral staircase was nice enough, with a metal frilly frame, but that was about all there was. No bedside cabinets so you had to put your glass of water on the floor and fumble for it in the night. The bathroom was smart enough but with no external light or air. Breakfast (over the road in the handsome restaurant with its vaulted roof) was poor. A couple of fried eggs and a few slices of Catalan chorizo or sausage identical to what I have seen in cafes. It took several attempts to get some coffee delivered. Finally, to cap it all it took ages to check out, as they had to go and check that I had left the room in good order. No, I cannot recommend this place. The only positive, in my view, was the bed linen which was very good.

There is a lot to like about this place. The flat is spacious, quiet, very clean, modern, with fully equipped kitchen and a comfortable bed. There is attention to details, and everything is of the highest quality. The balcony is huge and has fantastic views. The restaurant is superb, and the owners are kind and helpful. The place is in a quiet village, which is a good starting point for trips in the area. Will definitely come back.

There is a church nearby and its bell rings also during the night. This may annoy light sleepers. There is no wi-fi but 4G reception is good.

Nice and comfortable apartment, well heated and clean

The village’s church is very near and bangs the bells every fifteen minutes all night through. You can hear the bells loudly enough even with doors and windows closed. Not the best for a quiet night sleep

Spotless apartment with views over the hills. Incredible kindness on arrival. We hadn’t realised quite how special the associated restaurant is Can Xarina and arrived really hot and dirty on bicycles at 3pm with no lunch reservation. They gave us lunch without a flicker of disapproval at our filthy states, and honestly it was one of the best meals we have ever eaten. Alloi the head waiter was so so sweet, as were all the other staff. 11/10 for this place!
