Atlantis Surf Hostel

When I checked out, I was approached in a very brusque and unfriendly manner by a staff member. This accommodation is quite particular compared to others – I could have overlooked many things, but the unpleasant farewell experience made all the other issues stand out even more. Among other things, the staff member accused me of preparing food after midnight on my first night, which she said was against the house rules. While it’s true that I did this, I was never given the house rules and thus could not have known. After she informed me, I immediately adjusted my behavior and followed the rules from then At check-out, I was additionally confronted with accusations I could hardly understand, which the staff member called “highly disrespectful.” I used to work part-time in a high-end hotel during my studies – had we treated our guests this way, we would have been dismissed immediately. ondue to this negative experience, several other shortcomings of the accommodation now weigh more heavily: I had to shower in cold water for three days because there was no hot water. The hostel is located on a busy street, which makes it very noisy at night. From around 8 a.m., you can also hear neighbors speaking loudly, which further reduces sleep quality. The place itself feels rather run-down. Had I been treated kindly at departure, I might have overlooked many of these things. Unfortunately, this experience left me with a very negative overall impression. For comparison: I stayed at a hotel in Las Palmas shortly after, and for just a few euros more per night, I received warm water, a quiet room, friendly staff, and a much higher standard of service. Overall, I can only strongly advise against staying at this property.

Nice common area and kitchen, great stuff, nice room.

We arrived in pouring rain and some of it made it inside, but the stuff was totally hands on and trying to take care of it.

The mold in the walls of the basement bedroom which made it unpleasant to breathe.

It is located in a less touristic and less crowded area , easy to get there by bus . Some nice rocky beaches in a walking distance . I think it’s a sustainable place , caring for trash and not waisting too much water which is a big plus for me , since I learned from locals the very negative impact of overtourism on Canary Islands . It would be also nice for the future if the hostel would develop this sustainability approach a bit more , connecting more to the culture of the island and the local life ( and also local problems ). I enjoyed surf lessions :) and the terrace . Good equipped kitchen . Very cute design

I didn’t found the bed and pillows comfortable and somehow wasn’t able to sleep very well , also found a bedsheet a bit too thin ( during my stay it was unusual cold and rainy , so it’s not the fault of the hostel not to be prepared for this weather conditions ). There are no shops nearby, shopping can be done by bus . It’s ok , but would be good to give the guests the tip before arrival , so they can bring some basic stuff like water .

The building was cool and the staff was great. Rooftop deck was great for the evenings and the kitchen has what you need to cook. Nearby is a short hike and natural rock pools but there is no nearby sand beach or beginner waves for surfing. There are a couple of restaurants close by. For climbers, you can amusingly play on the MOYA sign - there are plastic bouldering holds on the letters.

There are fast buses into Las Palmas but they come ~twice an hour and the last bus out of Las Palmas is just after midnight so be aware of this when planning logistics.
