Lohijärven Eräkeskus

A beautiful place to retreat from the hectic city close to the arctic circle. We visited during the summer and there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy nature. Places for hiking nearby, possibility to rent a fatbike, lakeside with beautiful sandy beach and shallow water suitable for even the youngest, free access to a small boat to go out on the lake a little further. Not to forget the endless berries in the Finnish forest at least during July-August. The owner Heikki was exceptionally helpful, generous and available at nearly all times on phone or in person. I am definitely ready to come back one day!

Just to be honest, the only thing missing is the shower from within the cottages. There is a private toilet, tub / water and kitchen facilities available, but the shower is next to the saunas in the main building, not too far though, around 20-30 m from the cottages. Remember we are in the middle of nature though, so nothing wrong with this, but might be a flaw for the pickiest. Also beware of the mosquitos and other hungry flies in the Finnish forest :-) especially during warm, but rainy summer days, never dare to go there in shorts or you might be missing the next 1-2 night of sleep from itching :-)
