The Devonian

Everything was great, except for the comments below. I will point out at this point that we got used to the smell and it did become less obvious the longer you were in the room.

On arrival, at it was around 9.45 to 10pm once we entered our room (basement) it felt cold and damp. Even though the room was clean and tidy, there was a very musty damp smell which was very obvious.

Breakfast excellent.Good wi-fi, friendly staff

Lack of heating in the property, however electric heaters were provided on request. Parking can be a problem, it's on the road outside only.

It was just a base for us so we just wanted a comfy bed and clean room. The room could not be faulted on cleanliness at all. The location was perfect and I would say this was the main attraction to the stay. It was perfectly based in the middle to get to both train stations, there were bars and restaurants only a 15-20 min walk away and a 2 minute walk down to the magnificent view of the sea. Staff were friendly and helpful and more than accommodating to check us in early.

The room was a little outdated and in need of a refresh. The inside of the room was clean but the external windows were filthy. The view was not of the sea but of someone's garden and then a lot of old wood that looked as though it had just been dumped. There were a lot of stairs up to our room, around 45 steps which was fine for us but if you are not able to do many steps this is not the right suit for you. The bed was also on the small side, I would say it was more of a small double than a double, however, none of this takes away what a wonderful visit to the Isle of Man we had, and if all you are looking for is a clean space to put your head down each night, this is the perfect place.
