"Lovely place with a friendly and cosy vibe"

9.0

The Maybank is in a lovely location and we had a really comfortable room that had a real home away from home feel to it. The lady working there was very welcoming and incredibly friendly. We also loved the biscuit offerings in the room, that was a real treat!

We were really happy with everything, we don’t have any notes. Though we only stayed for one night and we weren’t able to try the breakfast so we can’t comment on that.

"Much more to like than not!"

8.0

A thoroughly surprising B&B - the owner only takes one booking at a time so you are always the only guests. But you're free to come and go as you please and she's a great respecter of privacy. In the room there's the cleanest, whitest, fluffiest towels I'd ever seen, and a really comfy double (not kingsize) bed. Plenty of tea and coffee, plus hot chocolate and Ovaltine sachets and a great selection of biscuits and choccy biccies. The listing suggests that the family room contains a seating area and a dining table, when in fact these are in your own private sitting room across the hall, where your delicious and enormous breakfast is also served. This consisted of a great selection of cereals and fruit, followed by a simple but tasty cooked breakfast, all served on beautiful china and crockery. The dining/sitting room is full of antiques and objets d'arts, and is really cosy and welcoming, especially if Liz lights the fire! The house itself is well located, just a 10/15-minute stroll along the road into the town centre, with the Clyde on one side.

1. The state of the bathroom. It's not en-suite but is located down the hall (but as the only guests that was only a mild inconvenience). We were offered a choice of two - a bathroom and a shower room - and we opted for the shower room. It wasn't clean. The toilet bowl was dirty, there was soap scum all round the top of the basin and there were cobwebs everywhere. More of a deep clean wouldn't go amiss, as other reviewers have said. 2. Clutter. It's a gorgeous old Victorian (?) villa stuffed full of glorious bits'n'bobs. However every available surface was taken up with said bits'n'bobs, which meant there wasn't really anywhere to set your own things out. It was okay for the couple of nights we spent there, but if I was staying longer, I would like to see the bedroom and bathroom cleared of surface clutter. Might make it easier to clean, too. 3. It looks a little bit shabby. But Liz the owner explained that they're hoping to tackle the exterior to smarten it up a bit, and to be honest the bits that mattered - the comfort, the breakfast, the hospitality and the cleanliness (apart from the bathroom) were all there.
