Batur Volcano Guest House & Villa

Nice new villa just under the volcano - great basecamp for early morning summit. There is a nice hot spring place just 10 minutes down in the village called BNHS. The private hot spring in the villa was great for warming up during the cold weather. The staff was very friendly. The property offers hiking packages to Mount Batur - short, medium and long - short one was 300k per person, middle one was 400k per person, and I do not remember the long one.

While it is technically a private villa with a private hot spring, you are facing a car park and reception, which are slightly raised compared to your villa, meaning no privacy since you can just stand at the reception and stare inside. The eating place was filled with dead insects. While I do not hold this against the property since it is not their fault, there is a huge problem with flies in the area during the days during the rainy season. This means you can't eat outside or just sit in a hot spring because there will be literally 30 flies flying around you. Also, the advertised hot spring is technically there and great by itself, but you need to always ask the staff to empty it and fill it again with hot water - you are not allowed to do it by yourself. During the cold weather, when the water is ready, you have maybe 30 minutes to enjoy it before it gets cold and needs to be replaced, thus a need to call the staff again.

Our room was new, in perfect condition, bigger than I expected, comfy bed and a fantastic view on Mt Batur and Mt Abang. Loved the hot water pool, too. Staff was very kind and helpful, they organised a jeep tour for us as well. The best thing that it was completely quiet during the night so we had a good sleep.

The end of the road is a little bumpy to achieve the accommodation but our car survived so no need to worry :)

The rooms were nice enough, and the staff while pleasant, seemed to lack proper training in hotel accomodation, but see our overall comments below. Considering the very limited restaurant capacity on site, we walked maybe a couple hundred metres down the road and found an excellent restaurant at Toteme Glamping.

Basic food options provided by the kitchen were not very good. Example: coffee served at breakfast for all 4 of us was undrinkable. Outdoor dining area was very prone to flies. The one indoor eating area was spartan - hot, with flies and no furnishings other than the tables and chairs . We had booked for 2 nights but checked out after 1 night.

Except the flies.

Very convenient for the volcano trekking tour. Very helpful and friendly and honest staff. The resort helped us to arrange the pick up from ubud, trekking tour and drop off at the port to Gilli next day. Beautiful hill view in front of the pool. Loved the hot spring pool!

Little bit isolated from other areas in the region. Need a private driver to drive us to other places. Flies issue as mentioned in other reviews but didnt bother us that much.
