Shibui Garden Bungalows and Restaurant

Nothing. We paid up front in good faith and vacated within 2 hours before dusk had set in with the weather turned rainy. Advertised as úncancellable', Booking.com should have a category like ''view before payment', if it cannot guarantee the basic safety and comfort standards.

The whole environment was not one a traveller should find themselves in arriving first time in the country and having to depend on outside transport to move around. It was more of a ''shelter''. We booked two rooms and the group felt unmotivated to stay as soon as they entered the bungalows. 1. The gable to the twin bedroom bungalow comprised of fish nets, where rain could come thru. We were told the wall fan (dirty) would blow away the mosquitoes, the windows had no mosquito netting, no locks on window with just a bolt on some, instead we were told that the area was safe and secure. 2. The room was dark, noisy (traffic), and pavement and stairs leading to the bungalow was lichen laden, leaving you to cling to the stair handle to get down with our luggage when the rain had wet the ground. 3. The other bedroom was an upgrade given to our booking as it had an air-conditioner. But the air-conditioner could not cool the room even after 2 hours, and after we were told that these type of wooden buildings had cavities in the walls, floor and roof which made the process of cooling not-ideal. How could we sleep thru open windows when there was no mosquito proof nets on the windows.

The food is absolutely perfection.This is a one of kind restaurant and experience. This is not the JW Marriott. It’s the real deal Lombok with an amazing chef. Michael has created his own flavor platform. Pure genius. This is also a family home. Thank you for one of the best weeks of my life. Lombok is a must visit for people who love to leave with a story to tell.

As a result of wood building, poor sound and temp insulation. Low water pressure and temperamental hot water For us these things were worth staying somewhere which used much less concrete and brick than most tourist accomodation i.e. lower environmental impact, and we were happy to consume little water during an island water crisis, but I can see why it might not be for everyone

It’s simplicity and the kindness of the owner

The accommodation is amazing and built by the owner. The room is very clean and spacious and has a lovely hot water shower. What makes this place really special is the owner and his family (pets included). As soon as I arrived I needed to go to the shop, the owners wife took me on her bike without a second thought- which I really appreciated. His boy is just the funniest kid and will happily sit and chat with you over dinner. The restaurant and the food is also lovely I highly recommend the burger! Other reviews have mentioned the road but it gets so quite in the evening so was not a problem for me.

It was a really good accommodation after Rinjani trekking. Michael, the owner of the place, is very kind and excellent chef. We had dinner at the accommodation. The breakfast included was also delicious. They have good wifi, the bed is comfortable, the room is fresh so the fan was enough. Hot shower was the best after trekking. We recommend the place!

People complain that it is noisy as it is really close to the road. It wasn’t a problem for us and also Michael can provide ear plugs 🙏🏾

The host family were welcoming, helpful with advice and interesting to talk to. The rooms were comfortable with a very nice hot shower in the adjoining bathroom. The food served was good. The location has a pleasant beach with a couple of local warungs nearby. It was also handy to the public ferry to Gili Air as suited our purpose.
