Sumatra Orangutan Discovery Villa

People were great here, and the hosts were super helpful. The food is super nice too (Indonesian food is great in fact) and worth the price. The staff there accompanied for the trek as well, and were really kind throughout. Special mention to - Tyson, Irwan, Hapis, Bob and all the others.

Very nice staff and competent guides. We felt very comfortable in the accommodation and could easily book the jungle tours in the Sumatra Orangutan Discovery Villa.

We had a delightful experience in this beautiful location. The compound is not in the center of Bukit Lawang, but it’s only a few minutes drive from it, probably a 20-30-minute walk (though we never actually walked it because of the heat.) As a result, it feels like you’re staying in the jungle. Except for the birdsong and calls to prayer, it’s a quiet world. Our second-story room and balcony were immaculate and very comfortable. Even though there’s no AC, a fan kept us cool enough to sleep well at night. My husband and I signed up for the full (one-day) orangutan trek, and were rewarded by two separate sightings of a mother and her youngster. The next day since the biggest flower in the world had finished blooming, we instead took the village tour and were very happy we did. Tyson and his team are delightful, obviously devoted to delivering a high-quality product. We also appreciated the food — a nice assortment of staple Indonesian dishes, all tasty and well-prepared.

A beautiful spot just far enough from town to be quiet, but still an easy walk. Excellent food and wonderful service. Very comfortable. A perfect spot to discover Bukit Lawang and Gunung Leuser NP.

It can be hot at night with no A/C.

The restaurant inside the lodge was very good, the food was super tasty. Good location for starting a orangutan trekking!

The staff is the best! They really want to make you feel at home and they can help you with everything. The villa is very beautifull and clean. We did the 1 day jungle trek and it was an amazing experience! Thanks for everything :) definitely would come here again

Amazing staff, made us feel like home since the beginning. Great activies around the area. Everything clean, comfortable, quiet and cozy. Their food was amazing as well!

No AC in the room, but it's absolutely OK for the cheap price you pay.

Incredibly helpful staff. Good value for money. Tyson arranged our jungle trek 2D1N with Nordin which was amazing. We had such a fantastic 2 days. Incredible food in the jungle thanks to Fernando. Trek is hard work so do need a reasonable level of fitness. Make sure you wear plenty of insect repellant on your skin under your clothes too. Arranged transfers for us to and from the airport. Good food at the hotel too!!

It’s a little way out of town- approx 20mins walk.

Fabulous and generous hosts that make you feel very special. We loved the guides on our trek, they looked after us so well and were fabulous with our children.
