MALINI Homestay

The Homestay is not far from the city center but in a small and quit road and in the nature. The owner and her whole family were the cutest and so friendly :)

I was charmed by the Malini homestay property and the pleasantness of the family who run it. The whole street (narrow with deep drains either side and speed bumps and a little remote from the Ubud town-centre) has the wonderful feel of a traditional Balinese village with carved statues of the gods, lush vegetation, chickens and locals presenting their morning offerings. The Malini property is a large tranquil courtyard with frogs singing in the night, and birds in the morning (the roosters will attend to your wake-up call). The daughters speak more English than the parents, but Mum prepares a nice breakfast (omelet, fresh fruit and coffee) and Dad can be seen about his traditional woodcarving. All of them are very gracious and obliging. I had booked to stay three nights, two at the beginning of my 10 days in Bali and a third night part way through. The night I arrived my reservation had been lost and the property had no vacancy, but the daughter undertook to find me accommodation for a similar price further up the road, and because breakfast was not included there, Mum even provided breakfast for me the following morning. The room I had for the second night had a bed that was slightly broken and I had a small gecko crawling on me in the bed at one point (impossible to keep them out after heavy rain, but needless to say I did not get back to sleep that night). My third night I was in a different room with a much more comfortable bed. I think the air freshener was covering up some smell of dampness, but overall the place was clean, the AC effective, the Wifi adequate, and the bathrooms had plenty of hot water. The property should advertise parking space for scooters only (and you do need some kind of transport; it is not really walkable from central Ubud) because the drive-way is so steep that I could not get a heavy vehicle like my jeep up it no matter how I tried. I ended up parking at the end of the street/intersection beside a communal platform

Well, as mentioned, it was not ideal that my reservation was lost or that one corner of the bed was broken or that the damp (and the geckos!) got everywhere, or that I could not park my vehicle on site, but I felt that for the price I paid I got excellent value staying in this beautiful, tranquil and authentic area with this kind family, and I would certainly stay there again. The family did everything they could to address the problem of the lost reservation and to maintain the rooms and to provide a pleasant start to the day with breakfast.

The property was nice. Everyone were kind and they took care of my just fine! The room was clean and spacious, they have hot water, and the bed was extra comfy! the breakfast was good and the fruit were plentiful. Thank you Malini💛

the WiFi’s a little iffy, but it’s not bad unless you need extra fast WiFi

The family was very kind and nice! I wanted to rent a scooter and have it delivered and picked up in a different location and that was not a problem at all! It’s an ok value for money if you plan to stay for a day or two! The breakfast was ok too!

It’s kind of difficult to communicate with the owner as she doesn’t speak good english! Only the daughter! The bathroom has no door, but a curtain separating it from the room and the sink is in the room! So if you plan to stay there with another person, make sure you feel confident enough with them! They could offer more toiletries, as they only provide a bar of soap and they could clean the room better! The bedsheets and towels were fine but there where dead little flies and insects on the floor the moment we checked in and weren’t clean during our stay there (2 nights)! The bathroom could also be cleaner as there were water stains everywhere!

One of the best finds in Ubud! The place is very close to the Ubud centre in a quiet neighbourhood. The host was very kind and made me feel at home. Highly recommend this place to everyone!

Malini is an exceptional host. She is so friendly and super attentive. The place itself is very nice, calm and green. The room is spacious and comfy. Hot water and strong Wi-Fi available. The breakfast (especially fruits) is exceptional and plentiful. For the price, you won't find better value anywhere else.
