Galyatető Turistacentrum

This is a classic hikers hostel. On arrival I discovered it is actually on top of the second-highest mountain in Hungary (a little below 1000m), with an observation tower with killer views just next to it. Dorm room was quiet and comfy and everything went smoothly with checking in/out.

The location is perfect, as we remembered it

We were quite disappointed: the overall vibe was much more “used-up” than 2 yrs ago. I think some maintenance is overdue. Signs of black mold on the lower part of the window frame, and in the bathroom floor corners (industrial resin) + on the botton od the wooden leg of the basin. 1 reading lamp worked out of the 4 available. TBH lack (or lacking) of ventilation was obvious the last time too, so the former is a design issue, but the ownership ought to tackle it somehow for this price.

nothing much to see in the village

It has great location, very cool architecture, great room for 3 or 4 people, where you can modify the lower bed layout depending if you travel with family of friends. Restaurant had great options and everything was delicious. It has great restaurant space with lots of boardgames. Staff is very helpful and kind.

Only thing was that breakfast wasn't good value for money and you have to pay extra if you want coffee, which seemed strange.

Not possible to set the water temperature in the shower, it was unusable: burning hot, no kitchen for preparing your own food, lockers did not work, small lamp at the bed did not work

Top location on top the mountain with a outlook being just 5 mins walk away. Quiet area, forest surrounds the hotel, fresh air and birds are singing. The area is ideal for a relaxing, hiking, spend some time in nature.

The rooms reminded me on a prison/dormitory/hospital. Everything looks cheap and very basic and the room has an odd smell. The building is made of concrete and is very noisy, the walls are echoing everything the neighbors are doing. The staff isn't friendly and you don't feel being welcomed, they're rather stressed. The bar closes at 8pm. For the equipment and service the place is overpriced.

Arrived at the hotel - warned that we will be late, there was nobody to ask and no phone number to call for info, waste of time.
