Casa Schmidt

Wonderful place in heart of Transilvania!

The small village is really nice and quiet. People in the village are polite and smiling. The staff at Schmidt House is helpful and nice. Check-in and check-out are later than mentioned on Booking. We chose a room on the ground floor, facing the street. Really nice decorated, all vintage and dressed up with good taste. The bathroom is very generous, well equipped and facing the courtyard. Bed is really comfortable and the room was chilly enough, though outside it was quite hot during the noon. The restaurant is 5-10 minutes walk, near the old church. Breakfast was good and offering a wide range of cheese and local ham, vegetables, eggs, local jam, fresh juice, coffee and home made bread. Lunch and dinner are limited, but really tasty and made with local products. Good wine range in the menu and beautiful landscapes on the terrace. We really enjoyed spending the weekend there. Rupea and Viscri are really close and deserve a visit.

In the bathroom the smell is heavy from the water drain system. Also the water in the shower and at the sink has a bad smell, sulf like. Other than that really nice stay.

It has a really nice backyard with chairs and a table underneath the grapevine and it’s usually quiet and relaxing during the day. It’s a 5 mins walk to the fortified church and Casa Kraus where you can eat or have a drink. The food there is good but average and the breakfast was fresh and enough to start the day. Staff is really nice.

The constant unpleasant smell coming from the outside sewage. The water which has a very high amount of sulfur and can be unpleasant if you don’t like the smell and if you body is not used to it. The black mold we found on the bath wall, above the bathtub. The dogs that are barking especially during the night around the house. Not a biggie, but we woke up a couple of times because of this. The lack of communication with the owners. The person who is taking care of Casa Schmidt (the neighbor next door) is really nice. This villa is managed by Casa Kraus and we found this only when we got there. Also, the breakfast is served at Casa Kraus and this was also not communicated prior to getting there. The booking details and photos are a little bit misleading. We booked a room that should have had a fireplace (that’s what it said in the description), old objects and furniture, etc. and we got a room with a bed and a bar with a couple of hangers on it and a chest of drawers. When we asked why we were told that they thought that room is nicer for us :/ it was not a 16 m2 room we booked, but got charged as if it was. They don’t answer on booking messages. No info on the WiFi password. You have to call them and they sometimes don’t answer the phone. They took the coffee machine away on the 2nd day, so the only option to get a coffee in the morning was to go Casă Kraus or buy some from the village market.

Very nice and cozy accommodation, located quite in the center of the village. Welcoming personnel.

Running hot water could be hardly used as it smelled incredibly bad - either from the sulfur or from the uncleaned tanks of water. This is a serious issue especially if you stay there more than one night. The kitchen outside was very poorly equipped.
