Bua Guesthouse Tangkahan

The guesthouse is located close to the river.

You need to climb very deep stairs to reach the guesthouse. We are a family with suitcases and had to bring them down in a temperature of 36 degrees celcius. No help offered. The room was extremely basic. Only a mattress on the floor.The information on booking does not match the reality. This guesthouse is for backpackers only,not for a family.

Simple but very nice and traditional accomodation with shower and private toilet. The staff is very friendly and helpfull, they organise an amazing jungle trek for our family ( 2 kids of 7 and 10).

The place is very beautiful, on the edge of a clear river, the atmosphere is still natural and not too touristic. Febby (staff) was very friendly and helpful, Nanta (the guide) was very experienced, He took us through the forest and saw wild orangutans. Staying at Bua Guesthouse Tangkahan was a amazing experience.

Next to the river, elephants passed by, very friendly personnel and quick response by WhatsApp.

This “treehouse” by the river charmed us. The facilities were basic but the experience was rich. We fell asleep in the warmth to the sounds of jungle night song all around us and were greeted at dawn by sunrise over the river and fried rice and hot drinks awaiting us for breakfast. One night there was a severe tropical storm that shook the room but despite an intensely heavy downpour the roof did not leak. Be sure to bring your own mosquito net. Also worth having Google translate on your phone to communicate more easily with staff. I’d hate to see this place developed further. Its simplicity is part of its charm.

The rooms and bathrooms need some simple shelves to put things. A mosquito net for the bed would be also useful. The breakfast was some simple fried rice without vegetables and a very oily egg. And the cats walking and eating everywhere in the kitchen were not a nice thing. Coffee is not included in the breakfast ..
