Okiya Guest House & Tapas Bar

Okiya is a warm and welcoming ryokan ran by a lovely couple that treated me like their own. Feel free to ask any requests from them, including ebike rentals and tours. Do be sure to let them know in advance so they can plan and prepare. Kiryu is a wonderful place full of history, and this former geisha house fits right in. Aside from touring the city, an evening spent getting to know both the hosts and the house can be an attraction too!

I wished I stayed for more nights so I could get to know the hosts and city more.

お部屋が２階で急階段です。足が不自由な方などは、負担だとおもいます

From the very beginning of our stay Yuko and Gabriel were the best hosts one could ask for. The Okiya guesthouse is a special place were guests can feel like family (and share a cup of mate!) among the artistic and globally inspired decor. The food that Gabriel makes is heartfelt and delicious with strong influences of Spanish and Argentinian heritage served in the beautiful former Geisha house. Soft jazz music plays in the background while you relish the tastes of fresh ingredients. This time spent together has been one of the most memorable of our trip and we can't wait to come back to experience it again. Thank you both for sharing your home with us.

Our only regret is not timing our visit ahead to see the live music and attend the monthly BBQ 🥲 Next time for sure!
