il buen retiro

This was an old (would have loved to know what it was like to live there originally), but smalll villa with easy access to Lucca, whether by car or bus, (the stop was only about 50m away). The bed was large and comfortable, the room large and spacious. The shower was roomy, with a good supply of hot water and shower gel provided. There were plenty of good sized towels. Eddi was very informative about good places to go, whether towns to visit or restaurants. He was exceptionally helpful in finding and booking places for us to eat over the Christmas period. The hire car was safe in the locked garden/driveway.

Breakfast. Although Eddi sourced food and milk that I can have, the breakfast is minimalist. Athough the rooms must be beautifully cool in summer due to the tiled floors, in winter, not so. There is a heater in the room that you can control, plus a heated towel rail in the bathroom - hot towels in the morning = bliss. If you are a light sleeper like me, the property is on the main road, so there is traffic noise. There is also a neighbour with chickens, plus roosters that you may hear.

Il buen retiro is a hidden gem. Manuel and Juliana are amazing, the two are one of the most caring host we ever had. They have very good tips, are super friendly and always caring. The rooms were perfect as well. Everything was particurarly clean and always smelling fresh. We really liked the pool as well, the Hotel even offers extra towls for it. Il Buen Retiro is located about a 10 minute car drive from the historical city center of Lucca. We also visited other locations like Pisa or Cinque Terre within max. an hours drive. However a car is a most like everywhere in Tuscany.

Beautiful, historical villa with amazing lavender and rose garden and calm pool. The location was good - near the bus stop to Lukka old town (very close by bus). The wi-fi signal was very good. The room was comfortable, stylish, spacious and clean. Double bed was big and very comfortable and we slept very well. In the room was really quiet. The air condion works good. The best are hosts, Edmondo and Juliana. They are very kind, nice and helpful. Both speak english well and give good advices. They made a delicious, italian breakfasts in the garden every morning - warm cornetto and amazing cappuccino, yoghurt with fresh fruits from the garden and honey. In the kithen is a fridge, coffee machine, glasses, cutleries - you can use them anytime. The garden is quite and beautiful, where you can rest and calm. We really enjoyed the stay and truly relaxed here. To visit Lukka or travel to Tuscany we recommend stay in Edmondo's guesthouse - il buen retiro!!!

Nothing. I was affraid of dogs, but they are very obedient and harmless. They guard the villa and stay away from guests. So... Everything was perfect!!! We should to stay longer here, but I hope to back soon :)

Great place to discover Lucca! Nice room, great outdoor (very warm and original pool) and most importantly super hosts! Really appreciated the atmosphere and recommend this place.

Road is a bit noisy but we knew it before and it did not ruin the experience at all.

The property was beautiful. Eddi the owner along with Juli went above and beyond to accommodate me. I felt to welcomed and they were unbelievably kind and helpful with me planning my trip day to day. He even sometimes dropped me into the city centre if I missed the bus. I loved the small details in the interior that within the room and the b&b itself. I liked how spacious the room and bathroom was and the outdoor space. I also felt safe staying in a gated community.
