El Vergel Norte

I'm still staying here a couple nights, but I wanted to post a review while here to express my appreciation. This place is an absolute gem. Angela and the other staff are exemplary in every regard. The price is incredible given the quality of service and facility. From the outside, the hostal is pretty nondescript, but whoever did the interior design and construction was a real professional. My double bed room has EVERYTHING I look for in a hotel room. The bed is clearly of quality with a firm and comfortable mattress. The pillows new or nearly so (unlike many of the hotel pillows I've run across). The room has a chair (rarity in my travels at this price point). There is a combination computer desk shelf system and wall hooks that work perfect for laying out my things. There is a nice sized TV mounted on the wall with Netflix, etc. The bathroom is small, but all new fixtures. The shower stall is the really nice, double sliding door design with plenty of hot water (takes 2-3 minutes to come in, so be patient). The curtains, doors, attractive tile floor are all of quality. The neighborhood isn't flashy; I would say working/middle class. Like most of South America, I would exercise care if out at night, but it has a good feel to it. I've had some excellent, very economical eats within a block of the hostal. If you are looking for a GREAT PLACE to stay in north Quito, it would be hard to do better than this.

When I taxied here from Terminal la Ofelia, Google Maps incorrectly said the destination was on the left. It was on the right ;-), but the hostal has an nice big sign. Hard to miss. Google problem anyway, not the hostal's.

We were able to leave our staff at the hotel during our stay on the Galapagos Islands.

It was a little bit loud at night because of other guests hearing loud music.
