Il Nespolo Matera

The location was excellent on the edge of the historic centre (ZTL zone) which made driving and parking a breeze, It is located with 50 metres of a bakery, coffee bar and modest supermarket while 200m will get you into the historic centre and all the restaurants, views and history you could want. The premises is an authentic (but well ventilated) window-less vault typical of the town. A charming and interesting experience. The enthusiastic host could not have been more helpful. A true ambassador for his lovely town.

We misunderstood the air conditioning controls, but the host was very helpful and it was resolved immediately.

The owner is great- reminded us Danny Devito- same big personally , very friendly. Bed was big, firm and comfy. Great large shower with very comply fittings and good water pressure. Not having a window felt odd, but we got used to it in one day. Free parking, which is cray rare in this area. Right at old city. Could not have a better location.

Please invest in a bit more expensive, but essential for good night sleep down pillows.

Very good location to visit Matera!

The host, Michael, was the best! He was proud and ecstatic about sharing with us. He was also extremely kind and helpful. The location of this facility was excellent being that it was a very short walking distance from the main plaza and ancient site seeing interests. An excellent coffee shop, small grocery store and cocktail bar were right around the corner. The room was cave like and super quiet for superb sleeping conditions....Very comfortable.

There was a dampness to the room. I suppose that was due to the fact that it was "underground" . It really was not bad enough to even be a bother.

Michele was a great host, very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean.and the shower room was generous. The room didn't have windows which some people might not like but I found the lack of street noise and light interference helped me to sleep better. It was very close to all the main sights.

Perhaps a kettle to make tea.

This is a great location without being in the Sassi, with easy access and private on-site parking - a big bonus. Michele is a wonderful host (only speaks Italian) who met us right at 3:00 for check-in. He gave us a map and highlighted the top sights within the Sassi, providing a walking route through it. The room is small but had side tables, a couch and fridge. No kettle but there was a Nespresso machine in the lobby. There was a window near the ceiling out to the reception area, but the other rooms wouldn't have windows as they're interior. The bathroom was very spacious and large considering the size of the sleeping area. Everything was very clean and modern. The location is a two minute walk from the main piazza, with many, many restaurant and cafe choices, and a coffee shop right across the street for an easy breakfast.

The bed was pretty soft - would prefer a firmer mattress.

Michele, the host, was amazing: we had an espresso on arrival while he gave us advice on what to see during our brief stay and he even booked us a table for dinner in a great restaurant! The beds were comfy, the location was perfect for us with our rental car (and a place to park). We were really happy!

It was absolutely not a problem but, as with several places in Matera, don't expect a window in the room.
