Mamuka's Guesthouse

We arrived in the evening having been delayed on our long journey by snow in the mountains. We were immediately greeted with a very warm Georgian family welcome. Dinner was prepared and served in the family kitchen - homemade Georgian recipes. The beds were warm and comfortable and there is a shared bathroom. The family are extending their facilities for future guests. Having been out birding early the following morning we returned to a wonderful breakfast including homemade breads, jams, yoghurt and cheese. Good chat with our friendly hosts. The location is great for visits to local sites including the David Gareja Monastery. We loved our stay. Thank you.

I loved my stay in Udabno! The main "touristic activity" for the day was Davit Gareja which is fairly close to the town of Udabno along a scenic winding road through some beautiful geological formations. Mamuka's Guesthouse is quite easy to find. They keep it immaculate with lovely blooming flowers in the garden. I think the guest rooms are upstairs while they, the family, live downstairs. The daughter, who is probably in high school, greeted me in great English... and Mom (Mamuka) prepared for me an absolutely massive breakfast the next morning. She is so kind! Mom/Mamuka is originally from Svaneti but somehow wound up in Udabno. She practically moved from one side of the country of the Georgia (near the Abkhazian border) all of the way to the Azerbaijani border. So far! Anyhow, my room was large and comfortable. They also have two dogs who are super-friendly... the dogs and I watched the parade of cows coming in from the fields early in the evening. I've never really lived in the "country" so I loved witnessing this in Udabno. :) I am not sure if Mamuka's accepts guests with pets.. but they are certainly dog lovers themselves!

As always, not enough time. If only I had had more time to experience more of Udabno, Davit Gareja, and the surrounding countryside!

Friendly people operating, good location, nice patio, strong shower. Cute pets.

No AC or fan in rooms, it's a furnace from 6am. These rooms shouldn't be rented without a fan at minimum. Breakfast was sad. All the fruit was old, mealy. Cucumbers and tomato very old. No cooked food, all I ate was cheese. Several items recycled from previous guests. Breakfast at a guesthouse is my favorite thing in Georgia, so it was sad.

Great, outstanding breakfast. Way more than we two can eat. Everything: vegetables, cheese, vegetable stew, bread, butter, watermelon, melon.. I'm sure I forgot something. We were set to a great start of the day! Dogs (small and cute) are very friendly, even if they are barking they are just excited to see you. A lot of animals behind the house, you can see real village life right from your window. Everything is really close here, great Oasis restaurant, road to David Garedji, horse riding.

I didn't mind it too much, but since I know some will, I will write it here. This can be read as satire, but in reality I managed to enjoy it. City life does not give one enough chances to hear nature in all it's glory... Throughout the whole night life in the animal kingdom didn't stop. It was like an opera or orchestra performance.. there were a few storylines, I believe the Cat (villain) was trying to eat the Hen (damsel in distress), Small Dog (valiant knight) was guarding her and the boundaries of the kingdom, and The Big Dog (The King) has let his power be known when things got too bothersome. His Majesty has also vocally corresponded with other dignified royalty from neighboring kingdoms, as one expects. But above all, I should mention great vocal abilities of the Royal Choir of Roosters. They created a powerful presence which could NOT be ignored and tied the whole performance with a strong bond of continuity. I hardly got any sleep but I wasn't too upset about it. Oh, and there's also only one socket in the big bedroom... That was simply inconvenient.

Very good welcome and great hospitality all throughout my stay. Room was very clean, was provided with towel and clean linen. I used the kitchen to prepare food and coffee. Everyone talked to me like I'm part of the family. Relaxed setting with a nice garden, among farms.

The guest-house is clean, comfortable, warm both in terms of temperature, as well as reception. The food is amazing. There was a strong storm in the area in December so I booked this guest house by chance (last minute booking) and I am very happy with my choice. The host is a very nice family, who can speak english well. The breakfast at mamuka's was the best we had in Georgia. The location and garden are nice. Bathroom was very good, the rooms are cozy and comfortable, but could need a small refurbishment. Overall our stay there was lovely.
