Hotel Radish House

This hotel is a true gem. In the basement, there’s a free traditional hot spring bath for guests — a wonderful and exciting surprise. It’s not a dream — it really happens here: waking up in the morning, grabbing a towel, walking down a few steps to the steaming spring, and soaking... That’s how we started our mornings. And after that, an amazing breakfast awaited us — but we’ll talk about the food at this lovely hotel in a moment. The food we’ve encountered so far in Japan has been extraordinary — special, carefully prepared, and clearly created with deep cultural roots. Japanese cuisine is an art form that has evolved over generations, a true symbol of the country’s soul. It never ceases to amaze and inspire me. Again and again. But here, we’re talking about something truly exceptional. Our best and most moving meal in Japan was served at this small mountain hotel — cooked by the grandfather himself, a chef who spends his entire day in the kitchen, cooking with devotion and tradition. I fell in love with him — a man of love, wisdom, and dedication, offering his guests only the very best. I must admit I disturbed him quite a bit with my admiration and endless questions... but you can understand — this was an experience that takes you far beyond your comfort zone. We spoke to him through Google Translate. Not everything this wonderful and unique chef served us was familiar or even recognizable. Kobe beef — the most prestigious meat in the world — was served over a bed of lettuce salad: breathtaking. Persimmon pickled in alcohol, homemade miso soup with radish, smoked radish, exquisite fish... There was also a sweet dish that I suspect was made from candied chestnuts, like in a Mont Blanc cake — or “vermicelli,” as the Swiss call it — and more. We also enjoyed a dinner featuring his signature beef dish, accompanied by clam miso soup. The place is very close to the famous hot springs, but if you want to touch the soul of Japan — this is it.

We loved the hospitality, the welcome, the food, we loved the hosts, the hot baths, the Japan in Japan.

天然温泉が備わってた。 ワンコと同室で居る事が出来た。

階段が辛かったです(足を怪我していて痛みがあった為歩くのが辛かった。

朝食も夕食もたっぷりあって、大満足でした。熱めの温泉を貸し切って入れて、ゆっくりのんびり温まれました。 窓から田沢湖の水面がのぞけ、夜には湖上の星空が素晴らしかった。

浴室のしつらえは、潔癖な人には不満が起きるかも。

Host was nice

Not really a hotel, more like a hostel, rooms in the hosts house. There are 2 onsen but the room was made up in wood, that looked kind of molded due to the humidity. Not inviting to bath.

外観だけは見栄え良くして欲しい💦

家庭的な雰囲気と、家族(3歳の子供の見事な太鼓の披露)のおもてなしにとても和まされました。

一番風呂だったせいか湯が熱すぎた。水の蛇口が開かず、熱い湯に我慢して入った。

すごく山の中にあるのでとても静か。景色もとてもきれい。辺りには街灯が一切ないため、あまり遅い時間にバスで行くと二百メートルほど漆黒の道を歩くことになるので注意。 好きな時間に温泉に入れたのがよかった。1人ずつしか入らないため、自分が使っている間は貸し切り状態。かなり熱い温泉のため、そこまで一人辺り長い時間入ることはないと思う。 田沢湖や乳頭温泉に遊びに行くのに丁度いい場所にある。 そして何より朝食が素晴らしかった。私は2日間滞在したが、メニューは違っていてバリエーションがあるようだった。地元の新鮮な野菜を使ったおかずの数々が最高。私のときはミョウガの柴漬けを頂いたが、機会があればまた是非食べたい…。

特になし。非常に山奥にあるためロケーションは少し不便かもしれないが、だからこそ自然に囲まれて非日常的な滞在ができる。しっかりと行き方の計画を立てていくしかない。
