Kanazawa Guesthouse Pongyi

I felt really privileged to be able to stay at Pongyi. It's an old Kimono shop that's been beautifully restored and has many tasteful furnishings that add to it's unique appeal. Nina (hostess) is such a lovely warm person - she makes everyone feel welcome and is helpful with local information. We stayed in the Japanese style room and the futon beds were super comfy. (Thank you Nina for helping to get our luggage up the narrow staircase.) It's also only a 10 minute walk from the main Kanazawa train station and a 15 minute walk to Omicho market.

It's a very small lodging and if you are a tall or bigger structured person you may find it a little cramped.

La casa es preciosa, es pequeñita pero el espacio está muy bien aprovechado y la decoración es muy bonita. Nina es muy amable y organiza actividades con el resto de huéspedes para conocer mejor la cultura japonesa. Se crea un ambiente muy especial. Además, me olvidé un objeto personal y ese mismo día me lo envió al siguiente hostel. Super agradecida :)

Todo perfecto. Quien sea una persona solitaria quizás debería cogerse otro tipo de alojamiento.

Nina is the best host, she makes everyone feel welcome and she is always smiling. She even taught us origami and Japanese alphabet! The guest house is small but has everything you need, it is very clean too!

The building is beautiful and historic and has been decorated in such a warm and comfortable way. Everything is extremely clean. Nina-san was an incredible host, she is so kind, introduces everyone to each other, and offers classes every evening on origami, Japanese writing, and other topics. She really makes Guesthouse Pongyi feel like a community and this was the loveliest place I’ve stayed in any of my travels!

I was impressed by the story of this guesthouse (read a short book inside). You should come not for a night stay but for longer to fully enjoy this experience. The host is sweet, friendly and everything is next-level clean. Every corner is taken care of and has a story to tell. The room was a traditional one (no food, no drinks allowed). Small shared spaces and friendly tourists around.

Well, to be honest, for cold-hearted Nordic travellers the host was way too clingy and she used only sugar coated words. The check-in process is slow, very local and there are many rules to follow. We were not feeling in our natural habitat but of course it's Japan! :)

We loved staying at Pongyi! The house was so cozy and welcoming, and Nina was such a lovey and caring host! The bed was super comfortable as well, I slept like an angel.

Endroit sublime. Nina est une hôte accueillante, chaleureuse, bienveillante. Des soirées à thèmes sont organisées chaque soirs par Nina: origamis, culture japonaise… C’était un plaisir de passer 2 nuits dans cet établissement. Je recommande à 1000%
