It is a beautiful house, very spacious, with a wonderful garden. The views from the bedrooms, balcony, and other areas are stunning. Walking in the garden is glorious—you feel as if you are in the film Out of Africa. However, the best part of our stay was the wonderful, interesting, and kind lady who runs this residence. She explained everything perfectly, kindly let us have dinner in the kitchen, prepared a delicious breakfast, and showed us the garden with its millenary tree—the third tallest and thickest in South Africa. She even helped us feed two donkeys, which was such a fun and lovely activity. She also shared some stories of her life, which were fascinating. We could have spent a long time learning from her. Thank you for all these unforgettable moments.

Everything was perfect. If you are looking for a relaxing and wonderful experience, this is the perfect place to stop.

Voelroepersfontein must be one of if not the largest and certainly the most elegant property in Albertinia, with extensive manicured gardens, a long tree-lined gravel drive, and well-appointed accomodations. For those self-catering, a large well-equipped communal kitchen awaits. When not hosting travelers, writers' retreats are sometimes held on the quiet and expansive grounds there. The property also boasts two national champion fig trees of enormous girth. The gracious proprietess was formerly in the publishing business, so the large and spacious library houses an enormous collection of books in Afrikaans and English, in addition to very tasteful artwork and sculpture. Breakfast is cooked-to-order and served above the library on the veranda of the second floor, facing north towards the Langeberg Mountains. Albertinia is easy to blow by en route to larger, more well-known places - this is a mistake I've made in the past, so was glad to have rectifed it with this stay there, to which I would return. An absolute must is the half-hour or so scenic drive north through the rolling countryside for lunch at the stunningly sited Jakkalsfontein winery and restaurant near Herbertsdale, which is reason enough to spend at least a night or two in Albertinia, the aloe capital of the Western Cape.

The WiFi service was frustratingly intermittent and transient during our stay. Management is aware of this issue and was working with their ISP tech to improve it.

The hostess of the property was absolutely wonderful. Exceptionally professional, and went above and beyond. We felt welcomed from the beginning, and the venue is really stunning! They even made my mother a special birthday breakfast, which was lovely. The accommodation is also close enough to all tourist destinations, has many comfy lounges, and great books.
