Guesthouse Básar

This stay was fantastic, we had the entire guesthouse to ourselves and Gagga made us feel super welcome - greeting us off the boat and driving us to the guesthouse. Grimsey is stunning and it was the perfect base to go exploring and walk round the whole island.

The Basar guesthouse was perfect for us. Very clean and stylishly decorated. Gagga picked us up from the ferry and gave us a lift to the guesthouse. The lady is very nice and helpful, she even offered us how she could help us. We will remember Grimsey and the Guesthouse Basar for a long time. Extremely nice guesthouse with a great location on the island. Next to the airport, a few minutes walk to the town and the closest guesthouse to the arctic circle. From the kitchen in the guesthouse I was able to watch the whales feeding. It was a quiet location with all the things I needed. Great stay.

Room was small.

Overall a great experience..owner is super friendly and helpful..breakfast was terrific..views were amazing..planning on staying there again in the future

Basar - not at all a bazaar!!!! The GH is located outside the village. It's not far from the trail that follows the cliffs and that climbs up to the Arctic Cercle monument. The GH is right next to the airport terminal - very convenient when you fly in or out! Nice common facilities, kitchen well equipped.

The bathroom is a bit basic...

This guesthouse on Grimsey Island is run by an exceptional family. We were picked up at the ferry with our luggage and transferred both directions. Once on the island they will drive guests a short distance to town, or the lighthouse. No car is necessary while on Grimsey Island. Breakfast was good and were the public areas.

Beware that when booking a Twin Room, Room #3 is to small for 2 people. When we booked we were not given a choice of which Twin Room we would receive. The other rooms are larger than the tiny Room 3. Room 3 needs to have a mirror and and trash bin added to it.

If you get the chance to stay at the Guesthouse Basar, take it - you won't forget it. Grimsey is an amazing place and Gagga is at the heart of the community. She could not have done more for us, including picking us up from the boat and running us into the centre when we needed to go in if it was raining and we didn't want to walk. In fact, one day someone from the island offered my husband a lift when he was walking down to the shop, it's that kind of place. You can see large numbers of puffins very close by, even from the kitchen window. Everyone was friendly and our two night trip was truly unforgettable - thank you Gagga!

There were only two bathrooms and the toilets were in the bathrooms so sometimes there was a small wait to use the bathroom.....but this really was a small price to pay for the experience of staying there.
