It was well located in central Magome and had ample community spaces to chill before bed. Owner was very friendly. They had a lot of supplies and food available with an honesty box for payment.

The dinner felt really overpriced for what we got. It was over 3500 yen per person per day, which is more than I would have spent at an upscale restaurant, and way more than I'd be comfortable spending at a hostel. They were a bit deceptive in that the drinks cost extra; we assumed they'd be included in the price given that it was so much. The second day I didn't want to take the dinner, but there are no refunds. The beds are also extremely uncomfortable, I asked the owner if I could have an extra mattress and they obliged.

It was close to the station and right in the middle of Magome, so in that regard it was very practical.

People were not really told what the rules of the place were, so in the end it became quite random how people behaved. Mostly they were very noisy until 22:00 in the night and from 5:50 in the morning, banging doors and making loud noises on the corridor, which was right in front of the rooms. Walls were paper thin, so everything could be heard, rendering it impossible to rest before 22:00 or after 5:50. The "minshuku"/hostel nature of the place should be emphasized better, because it was far from the cosiness or the cultural immersion that a traditional ryokan can offer. Only for people who can sleep deep and are flexible with their evening or morning routines. Did not try the food, so can say nothing about that.
