"Continues to be a Favorite Place in the DC Area"

This is a wonderful location. It has plenty of space. Everything you need for a overnight stay is included. Easy commute to and from downtown Washington, DC. A favorite place for me to stay. I will definitely be back.

Spacious and comfortable place in a good location, only a 5 minute walk from bus stop that takes you to Capitol Hill and great location from host

The bathroom could do with a bit of modernisation, but apart from that everything was perfect

"Never again! Drain flies live off of decaying organic matter-disgusting! Read comments in photos."

1.0

Location was OK but the drain flies were disgusting. From an earlier review " was a bit afraid of the surrounding neighborhood’s safety. There were plenty of cops around, the next street over. Property response: Dr. Suseendran, Ward # is one of our poorest wards in DC. However, ##### my neighborhood is one of DC’s most affluent neighborhoods. I’ve lived here for 15 years without any incident of crime whatsoever on my block or any block two or three blocks away. Sorry urban living frightened you during your stay at my home." Serious incidents within a couple of blocks! Scam artist. Avoid at all cost. VISA did not believer her either and they gave us a full damage deposit refund!

Update: VISA was unimpressed with her. Damage deposit refunded in full! We paid $100 damage deposit demanded before she would release the address. "You'll get your deposit back - don't worry! It's against DC law to withhold deposits". It's an older house, with sloping floors and aging infrastructure. There were lots of drain flies in the bathroom and we had to clean hairs off the toilet that the previous guests (or the maid) missed. It's a tight squeeze to get in/out of the bed Also a tight squeeze for the parking, as the retaining wall is leaning on one side and the brick is protruding on the other. The location is in a ok neighbourhood,. The day after our return informs us that we've damaged her door, and she's keeping our deposit. We don't push anything. We never opened her door with any force. The photo she provided us to 'prove' the damage only shows her old door with a lock that wasn't installed correctly and damage that could only be caused by someone kicking the door in. So, buyer beware! Please see the photo and judge for yourself. Edit J07/27.2024 Wow, trying to shame a couple for having wine in the evening through an extended stay and making snide comments on what they can and cannot afford. That speaks volumes about your character and NONE of it is positive. I hope anyone who considers renting this place take note of who you are renting from. You referred to your place as cheap because which is a good way to refer to a fly infested rental with bleach stained carpets and a subsiding floor. The conversations and her response have been added to my review. You keep making these false claims that we damaged the door when we left, it is clear to anyone who looks at the picture that the door was kicked in. and no photo of us kicking the door was provided. She claimed the "maid" was there at 8am but checkout wasn't until 11am.

"Bad"

1.0

Location

Host is very rude and invasive. When I booked the ad stated 2 bedrooms, it was clearly one and a living room with a rollout pillow you place on the floor as a futon. I called to see if I could cancel some of the remaining nights and was willing to stay the 1st night host comes and knocks on door being confrontational and hostile. It was my son birthday as I tell them both, she looked at him, asleep on the floor, and stated "well your not getting your money back." After I alerted her, I was still on the line with booking. She went "well your more than welcome to still stay." After you came down here knocking like you want to fight, umm no! I left. Be aware the place is for solo or couple. The shower is small and rusty. The whole bathroom is small. Only 1 of my 4 pictures were approved. The proof is in the pudding of her ignorant response from a person who don't know what a bedroom or a futon is. When they are wrong they start insulting.

"Great value, but the security deposit is weird and could benefit from minor improvements"

7.0

First and foremost, the place is a great value for the price. The location is also solid, but does require a car or a willingness to trudge up a big hill. It is fairly accessible by public transit (a nearby bus runs frequently right into the heart of DC!) and has adequate sidewalks and eventually bike lanes as you get closer to the city center. It's clean enough as well, I certainly didn't see any mold that some reviewers stated they saw, but it's an older home and that shows, especially in the bathroom.

There are a few very basic amenities that would be easy enough to add and would make a big difference, such as: a bedside nightstand with a lamp, a larger TV, a microwave, a coffee/hot water maker, and a working mini fridge (the current one doesn't cool at all, even when set to the lowest temp). This would probably only cost a couple hundred dollars but would really make for a substantially more pleasant stay, even if the price went up a few dollars a night. The requirement to pay a security deposit through an outside source (Cash App, Venmo, etc.) is weird - I've stayed in literally hundreds of similar places on Airbnb, Booking, etc., in countries across the world and never once had to do that until now. Particularly since Booking offers host protection if anything gets damaged, I just don't see the point... This wouldn't have been quite so bad if the deposit had been paid back immediately, but I had to message multiple times and wound up getting it back eight days after check-out. The arbitrary wait period was annoying and inconvenient as I have other bills to pay.

"Decent in DC"

9.0

The location is fairly close to DC and a direct bus to some of the main sites. It is a bit of a hike up the hill, but worked pretty well. Gorgeous neighbourhood

There were some miscommunication issues but nothing major. The heat was turned on and there is no way for the guest to turn it off themselves unfortunately.
