"Basic on another level"

3.0

Well situated for access to the town/railway station

HMO rather than a hotel/guest house. Noisy night - heated conversations between other guests. Boiler in room noisy. Room very hot and situated behind a shared kitchen with detritus scattered about including half a saucepan of food on cooker. No staff whatsoever. Checked out after one night as didn't feel comfortable staying a second. Not a pleasant experience.

"Alright for a single night"

4.0

The location was pretty close to the beach and local shops. You get what you pay for though, barely. The place isn't manned so you dont have to talk to any staff, which i like. Bathroom is quite nice with a really big shower and lovely light up mirror. The arm chair was very comfy. Room comes with a microwave, kettle, sink and fridge.

Booked at the Bursar street hotel, but due to unforseen circumstances, the owners changed our stay to the Gladson House around the corner. Not an issue for us luckily, only writing this to say that this is a review of Gladson House owned by the same people. The blinds were not attached to the wall, they're slotted into the mount without scews in them, so when i pulled the chord to close them, the whole thing fell off the wall hitting me in the face. The matress is so thin that both me and my partner woke up in so much pain. Luckily we only stayed one night, any more than that and I'd have been sleeping on the armchair. You can feel the bed base and gap in the divan through the matress. Only one pillow each, one thick comfy one and one that was so thin and cheap feeling that i had to use a sofa cushion to rest my head. Only one sachet of coffee and one mug provided, a few individually wrapped tea bags, two of which had been opened by someone, while I get that you don't have to provide freebies, two cups and two coffes in a room for two people makes a bit more sense. Hand wash is provided, but no body washes or shampoos in shower. Which is fine just usually provided in a lot of hotels, so bring your own. Room had rubbish in plain sight on the floor when we walked in and noticed there was more under the bed and behind the microwave. Bathroom doors bottom hinge wasn't screwed into the wall, so we were very precarious in opening and closing.
