River Nature Park

Very homely feeling and stay. Nice residential area. Great local breakfast included. Prompt response to requests. Bikes at disposal (I didn't use them but it seemed like a great way to move around within and outside the ancient city). The rooms are purpose-built as cottages with veranda.

For me personally without own transport, the location was a bit far from the town (though it's actually just next to the mid-section so that is great however exit only, to get the tickets one needs to go all the way back to the main road/enty ancient city) so TukTuk (arrangement) required. Aircon charge is high - fan sufficient, though.

The hosts are very kind, and the food is delicious. I only stayed for one night, but we had a great conversation with the owner, who speaks many languages. It was truly enjoyable to chat… The location is very close to an exit from the temple tourist area. However, the entrance is a bit farther, near the archaeology museum. Easily accessible by bike or tuk-tuk.

Very warm and welcoming hosts who did everything to make our stay enjoyable. Situated close to ancient city ruins. Bicycles available to hire, and safari trips too. Lovely Sri Lankan meal, and good breakfast. Lovely family run resort.

You need to pay for the airco

We stayed for just one night to explore the ancient city. The accommodation is super close, but you need to go all the way around to the other side of the park to enter the city. Exiting is a mere 50m or so to the accommodation, which was excellent after a hot day in the sun. Owners' communication was great, and they arranged bicycles for us to use (800 per bike) for the day. Breakfast was awesome, and the owner was very friendly and helpful.

Cleanliness was ok, but the bathroom had a dirty glass with water still in it. This may be because we were there quite early to drop our bags off, and they allowed us into the room at 10.30am, so this may have just been overlooked. Toilet didn't flush once during our stay, but a quick message to the owner had him straight over to fix, so no problem. Nevertheless, everything else was great.

Nice place and calm environment around the guest. Breakfast is very tasty. Washroom have some problem. But the solve it when i am calling to them.

Hot water is not working

Our host Pradeep and his family were excellent hosts. Pradeep especially was very kind and attentive to our needs. He gave us very good advice about visiting Polonnaruwa and brought us rental bicycles, which were the perfect way to see the ancient city. It would be difficult to find an accommodation any closer to the city and, if you are traveling on a budget, this spot provides an outstanding value for the price. Pradeep’s wife cooked us some excellent meals and we found the place to be very well kept. We would stay here again and recommend it to others.

Really the only downside were the insects, but we experienced a lot of crawly visitors in every place we have stayed in Sri Lanka. I think it just comes with the territory, especially in the interior areas of the country. Bring bug spray!
