"Where the hospitability is proverbial"

10.0

The landlady is hospitablity incarnated. From the lovely Bolo de Mel and Madeira wine at our arrival, to the fruits and vegetables from her garden she shared with het guests. The accomodation is really perfect. With a kitchen, a terras, a balcony and the garden the guests can share. Plus eating room, sitting room, the garden..... The quinta has an authentic atmosphere and is decorated with much love and an eye for detail. Its really a little paradise. We felt a bit spoiled here. Filomena goes at great length to make you feel at home. · Some people mention it is difficult to find with the GPS system of the car. Just follow the instructions on te website of the quinta. At the end, follow the signs.

"Super Madeiran Experience "

10.0

We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home on the hillside, with it’s far reaching views, quiet location and charming hostess. Filomena gave us a special welcome with Madeiran treats and more importantly her time and conversation, a delightful lady. There are great, spacious communal areas plus a well equipped guest kitchen and a sunny veranda. Cold buffet breakfast with the highlights of freshly squeezed juice, seasonal produce from the garden which included avocados, custard apples, bananas, apples and pomegranates and local cakes. We were happy with the location for going off doing Levada walks. Note: A car is definitely recommended for a stay here.

"A Unique Experience"

10.0

We enjoyed five perfect nights at Quinta do Cabouco, looked after by our perfect host, Filomena. The accommodation is perched high above Ribeira Brava, offering marvellous views out across the ocean and down towards the town, and the neighbourhood is very tranquil at all times of the day. Filomena welcomes you into her home as if you were a family member, and on arrival we were served tea, home made cake, freshly made passion fruit juice and a glass of Madeira, which was extremely generous and made us feel very special. The house is elegant, spacious and furnished in a traditional style, and as well as our huge bedroom we had access to a first floor lounge and another lounge on the ground floor, which had the dining area to one side and kitchen facilities which were available to us on the other. It is a delightful place to relax in, and we enjoyed doing so after spending our days exploring the island’s many walks. Breakfasts were excellent, and allowed you to prepare plates according to your own tastes from a beautiful array of meat, cheese, fresh bread and pastries, home made jams and fruit, and make your own coffee using the espresso machine. The wonderful view from the table made breakfast a particularly memorable experience. We experienced more of Filomena’s generosity over Christmas, when a table of home made cakes, cookies, dried fruit, nuts, bacalau and olives was laid out on the ground floor on Christmas Eve. We assumed that this was a feast that had been prepared for her family members, and we were overwhelmed when she told us that it was for her guests to enjoy. We were really touched by this special gesture, and it really sums up the lengths that Filomena goes to to ensure that her guests are happy during their stay. Madeira is a magical place to visit, and Quinta do Cabouco is unique and magical place to stay on the island. We have many special memories of our holiday, but we cannot thank Filomena enough for the kindness and generosity we experienced during our stay with her, and we can not recommend her accommodation highly enough.

"Perfection!"

10.0

From the minute we arrived we felt at home! Filomena was a gracious hostess in every respect, nothing was too much trouble. Perfect in every way... From the warm welcome with cake, wine and fresh granadilla juice from the garden; beautiful views; spectacular sunsets; central location; delicious breakfasts; hot showers.... The list goes on... TIPS!!!! You need a car to appreciate this place! DO NOT USE A CAR RENTAL GPS We got very lost going there... Use an apple app Maps.Me, then you will have no issues at all navigating this island. The guest house is also marked on this app, you will not get lost! Travel out of town to eat! See some of my other reviews! Thank you Filomena for a wonderful time, we are proud to be your first South African visitors...

"A peaceful place to relax and enjoy the beauty of the sea"

10.0

We spent our honeymoon-days at Quinta do Cabouco and it was really great. Everything was arranged perfectly. We were welcomed with traditional self-made cake and typical wine. Rooms were very fine and stylish like in a luxurious villa or country house. A direct view on the sea from almost every room is possible. Breakfast was excellent with fresh juice, self-made jam and excellent coffee quality. From the breakfast room, a breath-taking panoramic view on the sea is possible. We also once prepared our own dinner which is possible in a separate kitchen for guests in the ground floor of the very nice building. All in all, we enjoyed our stay very much and look forward to spend once more wonderful days in Quinta do Cabouco.

"very clean, quiet, beautiful house and view, ideal for walks on Madeira"

10.0

We fully enjoy the the beautiful view, the fresh fruit from the garden, Filomena's hospitality and recommend highly to stay at this nice and quiet house at the sunniest part of Madeira. Finding the house is easy with Filomena's indications and signposts at the street, the last 10 meters in first gear... Christof and Stefan from Maison Mosgenstein, Berne

"Home amidst the ocean"

10.0

We have been visiting regularly Quinta do Cabouco since 2009 and we truly love this place. We've come to consider it our home in Madeira with its fabulous location, unforgettable views at all times, tastefully decorated rooms, organic dinners and romantic atmosphere. Filomena is the perfect hostess - kind, attentive and efficient yet discreet and unobtrusive. The Quinta's location provides further advantages besides the magnificent views. Ribeira Brava is extremely well situated to explore the whole island from Porto Muniz to the North West, the village of Santana in the North and Funchal and Machico in the east -all of these options for wonderful daily trips. It can also be a great starting point for walking tours through Madeira's beautifully developed walking paths. All guests receive a free candlelit welcome dinner and although it is possible to book dinner in advance you can also dine in the beach restaurants in the nearby Ponta do Sol and admire the sunset. Having covered most of the island by now we would love to return again for simply enjoying the beautiful energy of a house run with so much love.

"Great stay with a stunning view!"

10.0

We had a wonderul week at Filomenas Quinta in Ribeira Brava! She welcomed us very warmly and nicely, even though we were arriving late. The quinta is in the hills of Ribeira Brava, with a stunning view over the ocean, by car it takes about 10 Minutes to downtown of Ribeira Brava. We stayed in the suite which has a lot of space and is nicely decorated, everything is very clean and fresh, we felt very comfortable. Even if you catch a rainy day you have lots of options to spent the day in the house, there are two very cozy living rooms and two roofed terraces, perfect. There is a very well-equipped kitchen for the guests also available. We had a really good week here and are already planning our next trip to beautiful Madeira!

"Two weeks of Paradise!"

10.0

Perfect is the only word to describe this home and if I could give it more than 5 stars, I would. This was my second time coming to Quinta do Cabouco and I was here for two weeks. It is tucked away up in the mountain offering spectacular views of Ribeira Brava down below. The house is absolutely beautiful and makes you feel right at home. The host is so friendly and gracious and offers true Madeiran hospitality. The meals she prepares offer a true taste of traditional Madeiran cuisine and most of the vegetables come from her organic garden! The bedrooms are beautifully decorated and each have their own bathroom. The guest kitchen is equipped with everything one would need to prepare their own meals. And the views from the living area offer the perfect spot to watch the sunset in the evening. For those who are up for an adventure, I highly recommend walking down Caminho do Cabouco to Ribeira Brava. It's about a half hour walk, very steep, but definitely makes it feel like you're walking through old Madeira. Quinta do Cabouco is the perfect place to stay if you are looking to get away from the crowds and want to feel like you are at home. I have found my true home away from home and definitely will visit this quinta again!

"Promises much, but a little disappointed"

4.0

Really difficult to find and in a residential area which seems quite nice. Its a nice old house and the owner has a few rooms she rents out. We didn't see it as the best value for money, the breakfast was poor and laid out before the owner goes to work. The bread was dry, eggs cold and hard boiled and a piece of cheese and ham each, with a tiny portion of butter. There is a kitchen that you can use to make your own food. Guests are seated at different tables so you don't get to chat with them that easily. I guess this is done as there is a possibility that first one up eats all the breakfast put out before the owner goes to work. Our room only had a bath and over the bath shower head which was ok for a couple of days but would be a nuisance for more than two days. Garden was pretty. What was the most disappointing, other than the breakfast, was the extremely uncomfortable bed...you could feel the springs and it was a small double and when the weather is hot the duvet would be too warm. Room was spacious though with far reaching views.
