TOMI in Shimoda

Nothing.

The cabin beds are so low, that you can’t sit on the bed. I hit several times my head. The sink is tiny and has no storage space. In the shower is no sink and mirror. Its hot at night even there is an aircon.

The beds were really comfortable. It was a quiet place, friendly host, great location. The cat is a plus! I enjoyed it!

Dirty facilities, no bed covers, just a really dank atmosphere.

Shimoda is a really cool town, I loved it, and I think if it hadn’t been for the location and the value of TOMI’s place, then I might not have stayed for the full three nights. I was able to rent a bike for two days very cheaply from TOMI, and the beds were very comfortable and the dorm was quiet. Loads and loads to do in the area!

TOMI wasn’t the cleanest. It is a very DIY property and pretty cobbled together. I was uncertain if my bed sheets were even clean to be honest! I also wasn’t provided with a sheet, only a duvet and pillow and slept on a mattress topper - fine, but I don’t think this topper had been washed! The shower was pretty grim but it was hot and soap provided, and I personally wasn’t keen to use the “kitchen” (a microwave, kettle, and fridge), although other guests did. I suppose this really depends person to person, some people can tolerate a lot more dirt than others. But having said this, TOMI is charming and the place really grew on me, but I wouldn’t come here if you don’t have a bit of a sense of humour or are willing to just go with it for a couple of days.

The location of this place is nice, it's close to a lot of things by walk. Tomi is really friendly, he can speak a little english. And during the evening at the 1st floor, you can find an Izakaya and enjoy time with Tomi and his customers.
