Nothing, small hiccup in the booking, but Margarida is a very welcoming host and does try her best to make you feel right at home.

Some places you can capture in a photograph. Casa do Romezal is not one of them. We arrived having seen the pictures, and the pictures are beautiful, but they don’t even come close. Because what makes this place extraordinary isn’t something a camera can catch. It’s the warmth of the people. The care. The attention to every little detail. The views that stop you mid-sentence. You step out, you look around, you feel the welcome, and it genuinely leaves you a little breathless. Margarida looked after us from the very first moment with a kindness and thoughtfulness you simply can’t fake, nothing was too much trouble, and she made us feel less like guests and more like family. And the wine tasting with Luís was a highlight not just of our stay, but of our entire trip through Portugal. His passion, his knowledge, the love and the story he pours into every glass, it was personal, generous, and unforgettable. We’ve tasted wine at grand, famous estates, and honestly none of them came close to the soul of that evening with Luís. The house, the pool, the valley stretching out in front of you, the homemade breakfast on the terrace, all of it is stunning. But it’s the heart behind it that we’ll carry with us. If you’re deciding where to stay in the Douro, stop looking. This is the place. Thank you, Margarida and Luís, for something we’ll never forget.

Die Unterkunft war toll, die Gastgeberin wundervoll. Wir haben unseren Aufenthalt bei Margarida und Ihrer Familie sehr genossen. Das Frühstück war traumhaft.

Superbes installations confortables et propres au milieu des vignes et des montagnes. Notre hôte nous a servi des déjeuners fabuleux et nous a fourni toutes les informations utiles pour profiter pleinement de notre séjour.

Les derniers 100 m sur le chemin d'accès au gîte nous semblaient plutôt périlleux pour des gens de la ville canadienne, mais on s'en est sorti!

Un vrai paradis dans la vallée du Douro. Tout était parfait : la chambre, et les espaces extérieures. Le petit déjeuner était exceptionnel par la diversité et et la qualité proposées. Et la cerise sur le gâteau...la gentillesse, l'amabilité, la disponibilité et l'accueil de Margarida. Je recommande fortement cette adresse.

Our stay at Casa do Romezal and experience with Gueda Wines was truly one of the absolute highlights of our time in Portugal. In a relatively short stay, we felt completely immersed in the culture, history, and traditions of winemaking in the Douro Valley. This was so much more than simply tasting wine. We came away with a genuine appreciation and understanding of the region — from the beauty and complexity of the traditional field blends to the deep-rooted history woven into the vineyards, the estate, and the surrounding landscape. Sharing wines and aged Ports together, including both Ruby and Tawny styles, felt personal, authentic, and incredibly special. What made the experience unforgettable, though, was the warmth and passion of Margarida and her brother Luis. They shared their family history, knowledge, and love of the Douro with such sincerity and enthusiasm that by the end of our stay, we felt less like visitors and more like welcomed guests in their home. There is something truly magical about Casa do Romezal — the history, the setting, the wine, and most importantly, the people. This experience left a lasting impression on us and became one of those rare travel moments we know we will remember for years to come.

Everything was perfect. I couldn't even come up with anything we didn't like...well, because then it wouldn't have been authentic.

Margarida has created a lovely oasis surrounded by and among the terraced vineyards with beautiful views.
