Hasthi Safari Cottage

Recently stayed at Hasthi Safari Cottage and it was a truly memorable experience overall. This family‑run guesthouse offers a unique blend of eco‑lodge charm, genuine Sri Lankan hospitality, and convenient access to wildlife and nature perfect if you’re visiting Udawalawe for the safari. The cottages are nestled in lush gardens, creating a serene, almost jungle-like atmosphere, yet everything you need is just a short walk away. One of my favorite touches was the beautifully designed outdoor washing areas, which blend nature and comfort in such a thoughtful way. Even if you are 50 or more meters from a city main street you can feel like it's a jungle. Also you can reach everything by foot. So warm, attentive hosts. They go out of their way to make you feel welcome, help with safari arrangements, dinner plans. Delicious local cuisine for a good price and big portions. If you’re after a charming, nature‑oriented cottage stay with personal service in Udawalawe and want easy access to safari adventures, Hasthi Safari Cottage is highly recommended for most travelers. It’s especially great for couples, small groups, and anyone who values local hospitality and flavorful Sri Lankan food.

Sehr herzlicher Empfang. Wunderbare natürliche Anlage, mit viel Liebe hergerichtet. Der private kleine Pool im offenen Badezimmer hat uns begristert. Lunch und Dinner haben wir im wunderschönen Speiseraum genossen. Alles war sehr schön arrangiert, sogar mit Stoffservietten. Wir können das Haus allen empfehlen und werden gerne wieder kommen.

Nichts

Dasun en zijn familie waren fantastisch! Ze staan elk moment voor je klaar. We waren met een kindje van 1 jaar en daar hebben ze apart groentes voor gekregen gekookt elke dag. Ook zorgde Dasun voor een klein opblaas zwembadje om in te spelen toen het warm was. De sfeer en het eten in restaurant zijn geweldig, elke avond verse locale gerechten gemaakt door Dasun of zijn vrouw. Super fijne dagen gehad. Je kan ook de safari bij hem direct regelen, die doet zijn team zelf en was perfect.

Kan men helemaal niks aan doen maar op wandelafstand in de omgeving is er niet perse iets te doen. Als je ergens heen wilt, kan je altijd een tuk tuk vragen en die staat direct voor je klaar.

Die Unterkunft war der Hammer- toll ausgestattet, geschmackvoll eingerichtet, toller Außenbereich, stimmungsvoller Essbereich. Wir hatten ein sehr leckeres Abendessen. Der Gastgeber hat alles Erdenkliche getan, um uns einen unvergesslichen Aufenthalt zu bereiten. Er fuhr uns am ersten Abend zum Elefanten-Hospital zur Fütterung, anschließend zur Jagdzeit der Flughunde an einen guten Beobachtungsort. Er organisierte für uns für den nächsten Tag eine Safari. Der Kontakt war supernett, wir können diese Unterkunft uneingeschränkt empfehlen!

Bardzo ładny obiekt. Dookoła zadbany ogród. Można poczuć klimat Safari. Pokoje czyste z fajnymi łazienkami (nie było robaków :) ) Sympatyczny gospodarz zorganizował nam kolację a na drugi dzień niesamowite safari (kierowca był najlepszy!!! Wiedział gdzie pojechać, jak się ustawić żeby były dobre zdjęcia. Zasługuje na najlepsze oceny!!)

The host and the staff were very very friendly, authentic and approachable. They made sure that our stay to be cozy and easy. The outdoor bathtub was definitely a highlight of the stay - a cozy bath underneath the sun, trees and monkeys. Breakfast was nice and the host also helped us arranging a safari tour with fair price and a very genuine driver with good eyes to spot the animals.
