Kandyan Rest

The hosts were really friendly and made us feel like home. We also did the safari with them, was a lot of fun! We would recommend staying in Kandyan Rest!

Nice and close to safari park.

Impossible to communicate with the family. We thought we booked a full day safari, but we were back at the homestay at 10 in the morning. During the safari the boy even tried to fake seeing elephants.

Great service and food. Close to the national park.

Walls were dirty , poor water flow

Although the staff could not speak English very well, they were very friendly and willing to help us. We could order dinner and breakfast (at 5.15 AM) at the accommodation which was very nice and cheap. We arranged safari trip via the accommodation which was a great experience! The staff (with the owner as translator per phone) helped us in catching a bus to Kandy. Also there is a shop next to the accommodation to buy drinks and snacks.

The accommodation was very outdated, with especially the bathroom needing improvement (improvised light, mold on the wall, overall not very clean). The bed was very hard and there was only 1 power socket, so at night we could not charge our phone and use the fan at the same time. Also there were incredibly many mosquitoes outside and in the shared living room. In the room it was luckily okay, and there was a mosquito net if needed.

Family owned guest house with good common areas both inside and outside. You can order food here which is good because there are almost no restaurants in the area.

Some difficulties with communication which caused some confusion, but the family is very helpful anyway.

Nice facilities for the price, friendly staff although way too ‘pushy’ when trying to sell you stuff. Kavishka was very helpful. Cleanliness was good, though there were quite a number of ants on one particular wall of our room. Unsure whether this is due to the hot weather but not a major issue. The safari in the park is good to see elephants, birds, and monkeys in their natural habitat. we were the only ones in the safari so that was pretty good too.

Staff (including the owner) were way too pushy when selling. When we arrived at the hotel we asked whether we could book a safari and they brought ‘the hotel safari driver’. He gave us a price and did not want to negotiate a cheaper price so we went for a walk and found another safari driver who offered us a cheaper price. When we told the hotel staff that we didn’t want to take the ‘hotel’s safari driver’, they literally didn’t leave us alone saying that the other guy was ‘a bad guy’ etc and then started offering a cheaper price for the safari. The staff didn’t speak much English but they made sure we knew they were not happy with our choice and went as far as getting us to talk to the owner over the phone and he again told us how we should take ‘his safari driver’. The owner spoke good English and even though we expressed how we weren’t happy with the level of pressure, he kept insisting. Eventually we gave up and went with the ‘hotel’s safari driver’. When we arrived to the park we found out that the safari price didn’t include the Park entry. Unsure whether it was fair for them to charge the entry separately but it just would have been nice that they had told us before.

Breakfast was not included but web site said included. We paid for it.

No towels or soap.
