"Very nice comfortable and the view across the town were beautiful"

The view from my balcony was stunning

The hotel was a long way from the town because of this you cannot get food or drink nearby

"Cozy stay close to Badulla"

8.0

The manager of the hotel went out of his way to ensure that our stay was as smooth and comfortable as possible. The free Wi-Fi was fast and reliable, beds comfortable, the hotel is located a bit away from the city, which meant that there was silence and peace during the night. The balcony area gives you a tremendous view over the city and landscape, and the hotel offers free tea for you to enjoy.

Shower was dirty and needs to be cleaned!

"Best choice if arriving by train. Value priced."

10.0

Hospitality of both owner and attendant excellent. We travel for good views but we more remember good people and interactions. Common areas provided a feeling of home. Very cosy.

Do need to plan meals a bit. Owner can assist ordering food to the property.

"Absolutely perfect for Badulla-Kandy train - remember earplugs or get the early train!"

8.0

The view is indeed superb, not 360 but incredible and you're pretty much on the 6th floor, above the owner's house. The owner, Pathirana, inherited the family home and his engineer son capitalised on the space by going up! He hosts bus tours of people that come through for entertainment so on Saturday night (only until 10PM mind you) there was some extremely entertaining karaoke coming from downstairs and a young family popping up to say hi on the viewing terrace. A really good atmosphere and thankfully, not a Taylor Swift song in earshot, which is to say it seemed to be entirely sinhalese songs. We met a couple of danish guests as well - it's a social spot with open-minded people. Pathirana came through for us by dropping us at the station in Badulla - which is the main reason we chose the hotel actually - we wanted to be reasonably close to the source station of the famous Ella-Kandy train. However the shortcut to the track is mossy and mosquito-ridden and after attempting a couple of steps WITHOUT our luggage we thought better of it. After no tuk-tuk turned up Mr P, as he's known, stepped up to save the day. A brief word on Badulla - it's proper Sri Lanka, insofar as we saw ONE other white person (I'm brown, gf is white) and met various people with minimal english and had confusing conversations about everything from clothes to food. In other words - it felt like travelling. Ella is so westernised it's annoying. Badulla may not be as innately pretty but it feels like a sensible place to start the train journey.

In the morning someone was having a very loud conversation in the kitchenette area next to our room. There isn't any sound proofing per se, so it was more or less like she was in the room with us! In the morning, at precisely 6:30am the lady started talking loudly (she could have been a cleaner) a TukTuk went mental outside with some horrific music and various workmen and animals all woke up - we travel with eyemasks and earplugs and you should too if you want to sleep through a little bit. We were getting the 10:15 train but I would implore anyone to get the earliest one going - don't wory about seats just buy 2nd class when you get to the station. I believe its 5:45 - get that one because the trains are regularly 2-4 hours delayed and any plans you have at the other end will be in the bin. Mr P's place is PERFECT for this because all the activity won't have kicked in yet. Just make sure to organise a TukTuk through him the night before. The bathroom in our room was a bit shoddy, retained water on the floor and had a lot of beasties and was generally in bad nick. I only mention this because for the same money in Tangalle and Hikkaduwa, we have had spotless new-builds so competitively it's fair to compare.
