Overnachten in de oude West-Indiëschool

Zeer gezellig appartement, supernetjes en mooi ingericht!

De accommodatie is prachtig. Hip en toch de oude stijl behouden. Een mooie binnenplaats waar je kan zitten.

The apartment was in a great spot, close to a park and not far from the University of Twente (I love walking/hiking, so this was perfect!). There was also a bus stop nearby that made it easy to get to the city center or the university. I really liked that it had its own full kitchen, which was perfect for cooking my own meals, especially with dietary restrictions. The neighborhood was very quiet, which worked well for me since I was there for work. It made it easy to concentrate and get things done in the evenings without distractions. The weather was nice too, so I got to enjoy the little shared patio for dinner, which was a lovely touch. Jeroen was a very kind and attentive host. He made me feel safe and welcome, which I really appreciated. I also thought it was cool that the place used to be an old school turned into a B&B.

To get to the apartment from the main entrance, you do pass through some areas that look like they're still being renovated. Also, the entrance to the apartment is overlooked by the neighbors' or hosts' windows, which at first felt a bit less private. But that's pretty normal in the Netherlands, where it's common not to have curtains. I would also have liked to have a little more information about the history of the former school and the neighborhood in the welcome booklet. I was especially curious about why it was called the West Indies School. Being from the former West Indies (Aruba) myself, the name caught my attention, but I never got the chance to find out more.

After staying for 2 weeks, here are my thoughts: The property was spacious, clean and provided a lot of necessities. The only thing I didn’t find was oil for cooking, I had to buy my own but that’s not a problem. -the kitchen has all the pots and pans you need, salt, pepper, dish washer, oven mitts, functional oven, drying rack, dish soap, and cutting board. They also include coffee with sugar and powdered milk. -the bedroom is comfortable, blanket was thick for the winter time and pillows were soft. -the bathroom was very clean, spacious, and comfortable. Overall, the place also includes heated floor so you can walk around barefoot. You also do live next to the renters so if you need anything you can always contact them. As a solo female traveler didn’t really find a problem with that. Netherlands, especially Enschede is considered pretty safe. If you can’t drive or bike the place is close to a bus stop, about a 7 minute walk. Bus number 9 takes you directly to the train station or Van Heekplein which is next to the movie theater.

Unfortunately during my stay because I’m a late sleeper, the neighbors would start construction early in the day so it’d wake me up sometimes.

An amazing and unique experience in a super cozy and comfortable appartment. The host is incredible thoughtful and helped me to suprise my mother for her 60th birthday! Can't ask for more!
