friendly staff. room gets very little natural light and some things could have been cleaner. the location was fantastic with a very cute cafe a one minute walk away that plays live jazz. i would recommend for a short stay as it’s right by the bus station.

You will not find a better value for your money. The bed was probably the biggest and most comfortable we've had in 4 months traveling through Asia, and you will not get a private room with air conditioning in a city center for this cheap ANYWHERE. Plenty of space and room for storage, good sized bathroom, and an outdoor common area with books, chairs, tables, kettle, and stuff to make coffee. Excellent location, only 2 blocks over from the night market made it easy to pop over there for dinner each night. Would absolutely recommend and return!

For the location and price in today's economy - it is excellent. Very friendly owner, shaded outdoor common areas, easy walk to bus station. Big room, big fridge. Windows open both to the outside and to the interior common courtyard if you wish for a cross breeze. It is an older style budget accommodation that was common 15+ years ago. If you want a small taste of what Chiang Rai was like in the 1990s and 2000s there are a few places like this left. AC was a luxury until fairly recently. AC is driving construction of new power generation - like the hydropower dams that are killing the fishery and local communities - forcing local people into wage labor in the cities. If you are coming to Thailand to see Thailand - and not a Thai version of the US and EU - consider getting by with the fan room, and stay in local places like this. Many places to eat nearby. The most local and cheapest remaining are behind the bus station along the right side. There were a few places around the corner on the left as you head back to the bus, but there is a new tall building built on top of them now. There are also fancier tourist places nearby.

It was a bit hot while I was here. Fan is always enough, but sometimes just barely enough. That's all really, and part of the pricing and the experience.
