The Nepalese and Bangladeshi staff were lovely, helpful and effective. Their situation seems pretty untenable on Gulhi although they paid agents in Nepal and Bangladesh to find them jobs. The owner-manager allowed me to use my room until 3pm on the day I caught 4pm ferry back to Male and the airport. King coconuts, beautiful water, beautiful sunsets and wonderful torrential rainstorms. No other fluent English-speaking were there while I was, which was fine with me. Mostly Russian, Ukrainian, Romanian, Czech and cChinese tourists.

My flight arrived at 11:30am on Fri but could not get a ferry to Guhli (Beach & Stone) until 4pm because Fri and Sat are religious holy days. WARN OTHERS NOT TO ARRIVE EARLY ON FRI-SAT IF THEY DEPEND ON A FERRY. The manager-owner of Beach Stone charged $25 each way for the ferry, though I (wrongly) assumed that this was included in the Booking fee. The owner-manager charged $1.21 to add some milk to a cup of tea! oh my. The breakfast was pretty horrible. White bread, grilled tomatoes, hot dog/sausage for the English. Beg for Maldivian breakfast (chopped up tuna, coconut and lemon.) The shoreline is covered with construction debris and the reef is pretty much dead unless one looks for "artificial reef" of metal near the harbor. Some of the people offering reef trips are total scoundrels. I traveled alone. In spite of what Booking.com says about Beach&Stone, it's much easier to arrange everything if one is with a partner or a group.
