Samaki House

Everything has been great! Moses has been super helpful and friendly, the breakfast was great and the house is beautiful. The price-quality is really good, so I would definitely recommend it. Thanks!

Katana my host at Samaki House was exceptionally kind and knowledgeable of the area. We had lovely conversations and he made a delicious breakfast. I enjoyed the room and the my overall experience at the house, I will definitely stay again!

My only minor criticism was that my room felt a bit far from the main house especially the dining area and the rooftop lounge. Though I enjoyed the added privacy it was a task to access the rest of the house. The WiFi signal in the room was a little weak as well

While the house itself is architecturally interesting, beautifully furnished, and features a breezy, albeit a bit dusty, roof terrace with a great view, our experience at Samaki House was disappointing due to the owner's poor handling of a booking mixup on their part. The manager on site was friendly, and the room we had booked and eventually stayed in for 2 out of 3 nights was bright and airy, but we were initially given a dark, moldy room with a bathroom encrusted in rust and with cockroaches scuttling about that we hadn’t booked.

When we pointed out that the room we had booked had a balcony and showed our booking confirmation, we were told we could maybe move there the next day. Instead of an apology or a discount for the mixup, the owner tried to gaslight us via messages, claiming we would have needed to explicitly request the room, although it was absolutely clear from the booking confirmation. We got to stay in our actually booked room for 2 out of 3 nights but the manager kept telling us about their problems rather than owning up to their mistake. We also found the lack of drinking water a minor inconvenience, as many other places provide it. Given the owner's and manager’s behavior, I wouldn’t stay here again. Sadly, I wouldn’t be surprised if the owner responded to this review with yet another snarky remark.

Breakfast was great.. Moses is a gem. Great view of the channel and Lamu town. Feels like a garden house with all the plants and flowers. Nothing bougie nor fancy but fit for purpose if you're on a low budget.

Rooms can get very hot though.

Mosque wakes everyone up at 4:30am with extremely loud prayer calls. Crazy, total disrespect for tourists and although this is not the host's fault, it's a massive drawback.
