Hotel du Vin Franschhoek

The location was excellent. We were able to walk to dinner and lunch spots. It was a quick drive to many of the wine farms.

Requires renovation, the room needs a kettle and an iron. The water took 15 minutes to get hot. The shower drain was blocked, there was no bar of soap. There were gaps in the blinds that let people see in and light get in. The shower looked old and the rubbed was very worn which made it look dirty.

The check in was efficient and the room well prepared.Reception staff were superb. The room was beautifully appointed and had more than required, especially in the bathroom. Lovely extra thoughtful touches were evident. Breakfast was excellent, delicious and timeously served. I would love to return for an another stay when next in Franschoek.

The splendid hotel is let down by poor wiring. These days travelers expect to have electrical consents for phones next to the befs. Having a short lead chord with dodgy wiring that you have to crawl under the bed to find and then have sparks fly when unplugging wires is not acceptable and is a potential fire hazard. Also change the washers in the toilet bowl so guests don’t have to do midnight plumbing jobs to stop the water running. Finally in this day and age do we really need to carry around 6 keys to get into the compound, room and carpark? Invariably it will be the last key that unlocks the gate which is unacceptable especially in heavy rain. A fantastic building let down by not spending a little money to upgrade to modern safety standards.
