Pension Bonnard

We had a really great stay at Pension Barnard during our week in Hakuba. Normally we tend to stay in larger or higher-end hotels, so this was actually our first time staying somewhere more like a bed-and-breakfast. It ended up being a really nice change of pace and felt much more personal and welcoming. The pension is run by a very kind husband-and-wife team who clearly care a lot about their guests and their home. They made breakfast each morning (which we opted into), and they also offer dinners for an additional cost that were absolutely worth it. The food was delicious, authentic, and felt very homemade. They were also incredibly accommodating with dietary needs — we had gluten-free and vegetarian requests, and they were very thoughtful about making sure we had good options. The room itself is small but cozy and comfortable, which felt perfect after long days out snowboarding. Everything in the house is kept very clean and well organized, and the rooms have heating so it stays nice and warm in the winter. Our bathroom was also very clean and we had no issues during the stay. The location is super convenient if you’re skiing or snowboarding. It’s about a five-minute walk to the lifts at Hakuba Goryu, which made getting to the mountain really easy each morning. What stood out most, though, was just how pleasant the overall experience was. The hosts really make you feel welcome, and the property has a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere that makes it a great place to come back to after a day on the mountain. We visited in the winter for snowboarding, but the hosts mentioned that Hakuba is also beautiful in the summer with hiking and mountain biking nearby, so it seems like a great place to visit year-round. We would definitely stay here again and would happily recommend Pension Barnard to anyone looking for a cozy, well-kept place to stay in Hakuba.

Good location, easy to find by car, and super near to Goryu

The accommodation was so cozy and clean and located very close to Escal Plaza at Goryu. Kayo and Taka were so welcoming and made sure all of our needs were met. They went out of their way to help us in any way they could. The breakfast everyday made by Taka was exceptional. I cannot recommend Pension Bonnard enough.

Amazing location a short walk to Escal plaza and slopes. Truly amazing hosts, beautiful family who went out of their way to ensure we had an amazing stay. The food was exceptional and their support was second to none. My wife had injured herself and they repeatedly went above and beyond to assist. They picked us up and dropped us off to the bus station. They rang ahead to ensure dinner reservations for us when we wanted to eat out. The room had great space for a family of four, recently renovated with everything you need at the snow. We want to return to stay again.

早餐真的太好吃了！！！每天吃完早餐都非常幸福，比一般的自助餐好太多了。老板人都很好，非常好交流，是非常非常温柔的人，像家的感觉一样。希望下次还能住在这里。离五龙滑雪场很近，每天都是走过去的。而且入住和离开老板都用车接送了，非常感谢！

WE LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS PLACE. Taka and family are very welcoming and hospitable. They really made the place feel so much like home. The atmosphere and the attention to the details really express the passion and dedication in providing a great place for guests from Taka and Family. It’s also so nice of Taka to provide us a ride back and forth from Hakuba station. We really appreciated the kindness and hospitality. Taka is a great cook as well. Breakfast and dinner is wonderful. The red wine pork stew is perfect. 👌🏻 Kayo, Taka’s wife, is so welcoming and a such a sweet lady to chat with. The sound of their daughter playing around the house made the place so much more enjoyable and homely. Cool looking Kazu makes great takoyaki which I finished most of it without realising.

What I didn’t like about this place is that we fall in love with this place. I wish I could stay longer and enjoy the place more.

Taka, Kayo and Kazu went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our stay and make us feel welcome. The room was very cozy and just a short walk to Escal Plaza. 10/10 would stay here again.
