"Tired and badly advertised"

4.0

Location

We were traveling as one couple and a single female. We booked through booking.com based on the description and photos provided by the proprietor. It turns out that the description on booking.com is different from that on the property’s own website and had we read that first we would not have booked. The single room, which was for a female turned out to have a urinal in the shower room and it was far from clean, and nearly a whole can of air freshener was used to cover the smell. Furthermore, to access the private toilet you needed to cross the owners lounge, which was far from ideal. Also if you don’t like dogs you would need to pass the owners three dogs to use the toilet. With regard to the general state of the property, it was far from ideal. The rooms were tired to say the least. The bathroom in the double room had paint peeling off the walls and the blinds did not fit the windows and duct tape had been used to obscure the window where the blind didn’t cover it. I’m sure that in its day it was a lovely room but it is in much need of a makeover. As for the single room the proprietor needs to be clear on all sites where it advertises that this room is best suited to a male guest and one that does not mind dogs. Additional point to note. If you are staying at Pascals because you have heard of the restaurant and want to try it, be sure not to book for a Sunday or Monday as they are closed both evenings.

"Napier - A country gem"

9.0

We really enjoyed the fabulous, rustic setting. Their staff were great... & Lucas was very uplifting.. Lovely to walk down to their eclectically decorated restaurant for fantastic food. Glad we overnighted in Napier.

"Good location, nice room, good restaurant..."

8.0

Great location on the main strip... Nice room with TV, kitchenette and privacy. We had an enjoyable supper at the restaurant.

If you don't like dogs hanging around then maybe not for you, but it didn't bother us.

"Not a looked after place, so I would not reccommend."

2.0

There was friendly staff.

Lack of needed items upon arrival e.g. toiletpaper. Lack of kitchen basin. No breakfast cooking facility, so no long stays. Lack of hygiene, e.g. uncleaned up dogs' excrement, uncovered open dumped trash, and rat on ceiling at night - environment made it impossible to stay the nights as planned.

"Not a place to stay with kids and pets"

1.0

Location. Friendly staff, helped provide for the bbq we had our first night.

One of the dogs is elderly and showed signs of territorial aggression, which is tough when you are offering accommodation and advertising your bed and breakfast as pet friendly for a fee. First night there, the dog growled and lunged at my 13 year old daughter when she walked by to the room. She wasn’t running or shouting that could startle the dog, she was literally walking. My shouting at the dog and running up the stairs towards where my daughter had run to, scared the dog off. When we asked to have the dog locked up as my daughter was petrified of coming out the room, I noted the dog was still coming in and out of the garden area where we were sitting. My daughter refused to walk anywhere on the property by herself for fear of being attacked. We were in need of toilet paper on our last day, so I walked down to the restaurant to see if I could get an extra roll. My disabled dog was with me and upon our return to the room, as he was climbing the stairs, the property owners dog bit him close to his anal region and lower hind leg. I was walking ahead as my dog takes longer to climb the steps and didn’t see the dog, until I heard my dog cry. R1,300 on vet bills for two nights accommodation was not what I was expecting. My dogs are socialized, go to doggy daycare weekly and get walked by a dog walker in a pack. They didn’t show any aggression to the three dogs or cat on the property. I can only say I’m sorry I stayed at the accommodation and that my dog went through this incident. My review is solely to tell people travelling with kids or pets, this is not the right accommodation for you. I realize just because an accommodation advertises pet friendly, may not mean pet friendly.
