Guest House Sun Island

I had an awesome time getting to know the young family owners and other two guests! Delicious food, great company and close to Tateyama station for the Alpine Route. Even got a pick up and drop off for 1000 yen. Great value!

Bathroom walls and ceiling…….but there are plenty of other places with onsens so one night without is fine.

If you love the outdoors, definitely stay at this guesthouse! It is surrounded by beautiful Japanese nature, not too far from the mountains - perfect for hiking, climbing as well as snowboarding. Besides that, the hosts are very warm and welcoming, and their son is the cutest Japanese child I have met. The food is authentic Japanese - absolutely a must try! The bedroom is also in traditional Japanese style, which I really appreciated.

The heaters have a strong smell, which personally gave me headaches and a feeling of sickness - I suggest using more blankets rather than the heater. You can hear some noise from other rooms, since the building is old, but it's not a big issue.

It's my mistake. I expect air-conditioning is basic. Without checking, I paid. I could just pay 10k yen to live in hotel in Toyama with clean in room toilet with air-conditioning, but in order to reach the Tateyama station early, I chose this hotel at a price of 13.5k yen! I could barely sleep during the night as I felt hot with two fans. When I fell asleep, I woke up at 6 am. as there was sunlight shining in! I have thought about forfeiting the charge and driving out to Toyoma to have proper sleep in a proper hotel room with basic air-conditioning, shower, and cleanliness. The guesthouse only fits those feverish with ski during winter as it is close to the ski field. It is my mistake to choose carelessly.
