Private guest house without bath and shower - Vacation STAY 47247v

Tak the host is fantastic...friendly, helpful, and he speaks decent English. His customer service attitude makes his small, simple guest house a mouse that roars. The bookstore in front where guests check in is cute, fun and interesting, a nice, welcoming space.

We booked a room for 2 with bathroom. Received an email 2 days before arrival saying there is no private bathroom - in fact the entire property has no bathroom, just a toilet downstairs for everyone to share. We were then allocated a tiny room with 2 bunkbeds and not enough room to swing a mouse (see photos). There was a lot of noise (room just above kitchen with holes in floorboards and talking loudly long into the night), a lot or light that could not be blocked out from hallway, very dusty (room had not been cleaned properly for a long time), very uncomfortable beds. It was absolutely shocking and nothing like the photos. By far the worst accommodation we had in Japan and the only time I was disappointed so I do not have unrealistic expectations. Essentially it was a really bad hostel experience charging hotel prices. Upon request to the owners on the last night they transferred us into a much better room which was empty - why they didnt do this automatically is beyond me. So disappointed - my wife was in tears when she saw the first room - it was false advertising at its finest. I could go on..internet didnt work etc ..but have said enough.

Location was perfect. Owner was nice and helpfully.

Not being able to contact owner via booking.com beforehand to ask if there was a possibility to store our luggage. Luckily there are coin lockers at the parking lot nearby. Expensive for the facilities but not for the location.

I had an awesome experience in this guest house. The owner is very friendly and welcoming, plus the establishment is a bookstore, a café and a bar! Great place to stay if you're in Kinosaki.

It's a typical japanese house so walls are very thin. I tend to snore so I probably botherer the other guests because of that.

Nice staff, quiet location

This property advertised as having a “shared bathroom” then after we booked changed that to “shared toilet”. The the toilet was done a very steep staircase too. We had sought a double bed and got two singles in bunks. The price was higher than for Tokyo or Kyoto with a private bathroom and double bed. The Booking.com website said both “ shared “ and “no” bathroom. This place is best suited to backpackers.

The location was good. Not too close to the center to be crowded, but not too far to be inconvenient. The staff was very friendly and kind. You get a free drink if you stay there. There are also a lot of books to read (if you can read Japanese).

The bed was very noisy if you moved around. It made it hard to sleep. The bed was also not very comfortable.
