THE NYAMO surfschool & stay

Nyamo is situated in a beautiful location in West Bali. The owner, Riki, is extremely hospitable, helpful and always on hand for what you may need via whatsapp. Riki organised surfing lessons for us most days (as of Sept 2024 this was 350k for up to 2 hours 1:1 private lesson with with trained surf coaches) and private taxi to and from the airport (700k each way) as well as locally at the drop of a hat. There are a few cafes around serving Balinese and Western food - these are excellent. Do try the Bamboo Beach Bar, Holy Tree Cafe and Nal’s Kitchen. Wide Sands resort though more expensive is another good local option. We booked an initial 5 night stay and extended to 9 nights. Cannot wait to return to Yeh Sumbul Again soon!

Location in front of one of the best cafes in town; great wifi and great network connection if you need something stronger (was really fast for my work, zoom calls & uploading huge files); stunning location; the area attracts all the younger surf type crowd, where as when I went to the area where the point break is (about 15/20 min walk) to visit some friends it was filled with grumpy old male tourists (who have heaps more $$ to throw at accomodation) who were complaining about “all the kooks and girls in the lineup”….. gross. Beach break across the whole bay, easy to find a wave to yourself. Only a hand full of places to eat nearby but all such high quality! I was working full time during my stay and it was a perfect spot for any digi nomad. The room itself - loved having a desk/workspace; absolutely did not miss having an aircon as it has a fan and it can get quite cool with the seabreaze; semi-comfy mattress but I slept perfectly; mosquito net so I was able to keep the villa open all day (not many mosquitoes at all though); beautiful garden; cold water shower but honestly that cold and I really didn’t miss the heat; very basic but large bathroom; lovely view from porch (can see the ocean and the rice fields) Rikki was really lovely, can organise you a scooter ASAP, kept the drinking water full all times. Incredible value for money!!

Only thing was a local party / live music going on across the road at the Holy Tree one night, nothing to do with Nyamo but I’m sure the hotel owners on the strip could come together and ask them to turn it down when it hits 9/10pm as it was loud enough to fill a football stadium but probably only 20 people there 😅 even with my earphones in I could hear it and feel the base vibrating ahahah.

This is an exceptional beautiful place to hang out, to surf, to work if applicable, and to be social. The food at the cafe is incredibly tasty and you can enjoy looking at the sea.

Close to beach, quiet area Simple accomadtion in natural surroundings. Convenient for surfers

First thing hit by extreme damp smell. Bedsheets were not washed from previous guest! Who was a smelly one, pillows smelt awful. Towels smelt good and were clean.. confusing. Fly net itself very smelly from age, a very hard night, we didn't sleep at all. Lack of a/c a bit uncomfortable with the smells. Cold shower, basic but useable. Not much in the area besides one cafe.

Location. It was super clean, big rooms, some are very modern, they provide water and a little kitchen

Amazing location - so close to beach break and restaurant. Host was very helpful.
