Sahi River View Guest house

The guest house is in a brilliant location near Assi Ghat (one of the largest and most popular ghats in Varanasi), making it very easy to watch the morning and evening Aarti ceremonies. We were so well looked after by Jitendra and Shikha who amongst other things helped us book a sunrise boat ride, airport travel and prepared delicious home cooked meals throughout our stay. We were so pleased and the food was genuinely some of the best we've had in North India.

This didn't bother us but it's worth being aware that the morning Aarti ceremony will probably wake you up between 5 and 6AM. That being said, they are a really special experience and everyone in Varanasi generally starts their day very early.

This is one of the best budget hotels I've stayed in, I would stay there again in a heartbeat. Don't let the scruffy outside fool you, once you get inside it's a charming and peaceful little sanctuary. The staff is super nice and helpful, I felt at home right away. And the location is great too, right by Assi Ghat. I ate at the rooftop restaurant a couple of times and the food was really good. It's basically home-made food that one of the ladies cooks fresh when you order it, nothing is pre-made. I paid a few dollars extra to have a room with a balcony, and I ended up in room 11, which is probably one of their best, with a view onto the river. It's quite spacious, and bright and airy. The only downside to having a front-facing room is that it can get a bit noisy from the street and river-front activities, but it didn't bother me much. Highly recommended!

First of climbing so many stairs with luggage, kids and especially by elderly parents was a hassle.

Smelly room with no exhaust in bathroom. Water was not provided and chargeable. No lift. TV not working.

The location was great, right on the Assi ghat. One could enjoy morning aartis right from the terrace.
