Staff was welcoming and friendly, the place was clean in and out and breakfast was 99.999%

The property advertises itself as a Guest Farm, but ommits the fact that when checking in, you are the only guest on the property. The owner of the house decided to leave to go on holiday and left the domestic worker to hand the keys over before leaving to go home. As a single woman, to be expected to stay on a remote farm in the middle of nowhere, in a town you know nothing about, with no security and no-one to call should there be any issues is a disgrace. Upon phoning to confirm the booking which the property didn't bother doing, the owner made themselves unavailable handing the responsibility to their domestic worker who didn't even know which room was being booked despite advertising different rates for standard and deluxe rooms. Payment was expected on arrival before showing the room and explaining the circumstances that would follow. The room was advertised as offering air conditioning which didn't work. We tried to phone the number for the accomodation with the domestic answering who informed us we would need to get one of the workers somewhere on the farm to assist. Eventually left with no choice, the decision was made to leave and seek out safer sleeping arrangements. After having read the reviews for this property, I can only assume these were given when the owner was present, as the booking was made based on these or that the reviews were left by family or friends? As this has not remotely been our experience, and based on false advertising, we would not recommend this property to anyone. It was one of the worst experiences ever and the feedback when we eventually received one from the owner after submitting a complaint and requesting a refund was appalling to say the least.

This property should not be allowed to advertise or they should be honest in what they are advertising. If you are looking to stay on a farm and rent a house this is a bargain, but if you are expecting to receive the services of a 'bed and breakfast' i.e. working and servicable facilities or a present owner/manager on site to assist, then this will not be the place for you. If you expect to be treated as a guest, this is also not the case, but if you expect to be treated with rudeness and confrontation than you have found the right place.

The breakfast was delicious. I felt like I was at my grandmother's place. So warm and loving!

Our hosts have thought about how to create a peaceful, welcoming space to stay, whether just passing through or as a destination vacation. Our room was spacious and very comfortable and we enjoyed the indoor outdoor flow. Dinner and breakfast were delicious. We watched the light fade sitting on comfortable chairs on the covered stoop.

I have no reservations in recommending Marculem. Nothing we did not like. Do arrive during daylight though as it’s a dirt road - we had a compact car and it was just fine

Great spot for an extended family holiday. Beautiful lawns, fabulous verandah with braai and swimming pool at the perfect temperature. Breakfast was delicious and the host and staff were attentive. We loved our stay.
