Shambala Paradise

Amazing view, quiet place, good location

Heavenly ! Staying at Shambala Paradise was like finding gold. We had never been at a guest house with no neighbours , the property is huge , quiet and private . Surrounded by tall trees, the view from the large balcony is spectacular. It's close to the main road with all the bars and restos nearby plus the center of town just a few minutes away, you feel like you’re on another planet. Close by to beaches and waterfalls makes it a perfect location. The bed has a nice firm mattress and it also has a coffee maker. We had only reserved for 2 nights but ended up extending another 4 nights more.....Paradise !

Дом расположен вдали от шумных улиц, на возвышении; с веранды открывается великолепный вид - на окрестности и море, здесь очень хорошо встречать закаты и мечтать. В доме есть все необходимое - холодильник, сейф, чайник, вентилятор. Я бы рекомендовал этот дом одиноким романтикам и влюбленным парам. Хозяин (Кевин) заботится и помогает - забронировать билеты, найти места для посещения и др. Для того, чтобы ездить на пляжи и водопады, нужно арендовать байк. Если я еще раз приеду на Сикихор - обязательно поселюсь в этом месте.

Интернет хорошо работает только ближе к ночи. К этому нужно быть готовым.

No drunk teenagers screaming “bro” at 4 am

If the guy has the audacity to rent out a spider and lizard infested shack with: NO HOT WATER NO WORKING WIFI NO CELLULAR SIGNAL NO GENERATOR DURING BLACKOUTS All while charging 5$ extra for AC PER NIGHT Then I have the audacity to leave a 1/10 rating. Cuz kenedia is all about fairness and equality. Eh!? I’m living in SE Asia for 3.5 years, “I have seen things, you people wouldn’t believe” This shack on the hill is worse than a ping pong show in Pattaya. I came home at night, there’s a fat lizard size of a water bottle sitting outside, above the door. Watching. Staring. You throw a slipper at it, it comes back 3 minutes later. Those Tokay Geckos are territorial and crazy, also they scream at night. You can go find on YouTube. Roosters at 3am? Of course! There were spiders everywhere inside, I spent 3 nights chasing them with a spray can. There were also two small geckos, one was bigger and constantly crawled around the bed. I warned it for two days, it didn’t get the hint, so I nuked it too. You are welcome. Then the owner texts you like a needy ex 10 times a day. “How are you?” “How did you sleep” “you should arrange a taxi ride back to fairy” That’s when you go “Really dude? I’ve been on the island for 4 days, police already wave at me, bartenders saying don’t worry about it sir, you are a regular, I know where to rent ATVs and who to give 3$ to learn to ride a scooter, and you can’t arrange a taxi ride to the ferry?” Sure enough morning of the check-out: no power, no wife, no signal, no help. Have to drag your suitcase through the jungle to the main road. That side road? Even taxi drivers didn’t want to go down that disaster. I wasn’t sure what will break first the suitcase wheels or my sanity. I can go on forever. Bad enough there’s that endless broken stairway you have to take every day through spiderwebs while getting smacked in the face by branches. Now imagine at night… drunk… I can seriously go on for an hour.

We liked everything here! We only booked 3 nights first and then extended for a whole week. Kevin provides everything you could wish for. You can also make your own coffee in the morning and enjoy the amazing view from the balcony. The guesthouse is spacious so perfect for a couple or two friends. The house sits a bit outside of San Juan maybe 5mins by motorbike. But to get around here on the island you need a motorbike anyways. Kevin and his wife were so welcoming and we felt home the first minute we arrived. Thanks for everything! :)

The wifi is sometimes a bit slow but that‘s a general problem on the island because mobile data is also not working well everywhere here.

OK so where to start? There is so much to like about this guesthouse. - Privacy, peace and quiet for me are the main things. The guesthouse is not surrounded by other accommodation, nor any shops. You have your own little cottage with trees all around and you feel like you are in your own space. - Free water refills. No need to buy plastic bottles over and over again, this is a massive plus being able to fill up before you head out. - Large room with a lot of floor space inside as well as table space, some chairs and hanging space in the bathroom. - The bed and pillows are comfortable. - There is a large balcony that looks west and you can watch the sunset over the island of negros or the ocean depending on the time of year. - Full sized fridge in the room as well as a microwave, kettle, cups etc. - There is a basin for washing your hands in the main part of the room. - Shower area is large, all the toiletries are provided (body wash and shampoo) as well as hand soap provided at the bathroom sink. - Fan provided in the room (AC is an extra 250 pesos per day from memory, but it is a new modern quiet AC). - As you're located on the hill you have cooler temperatures in the guesthouse as you will get a breeze come through. Windows are also tinted and the guesthouse surrounded by trees which all keeps it cooler inside. - Towels provided were good quality, plush and thick. - Coffee and tea were provided. - Walking distance to Lucy's scooter rental which is one of the best on the island. - Close to the island's best gym (Golden Gorilla Gym), - Location is perfect as it is only 4-5 minutes into San Juan but you can get away from the noise back to your own private space, no road noise, no roosters (maybe off in the distance). - Scooter parking. - Amazing host who is super helpful and friendly. Will offer suggestions or try to improve your stay if you have any suggestions about things.

- Bed a little short for taller people (I am 6ft for example) but I slept well. - Wifi was slow but this was a problem across the whole island as they suffered a lot of power outages and cafes/reastaurants wifi's were also not working during this time. It improved later on during the stay. - Shower pressures a bit low (common Philippines problem, this place isn't the worst I've had by a long way). - Yes you need a scooter to stay here, but I don't consider this a negative at all, just wanted to point that out to people so they know. - Not an issue for me but some people might not like the stairs to the guesthouse. You have your own gate, then a path uphill to the guesthouse. It's not a difficult walk.

Kevin has been very helpful and welcoming!! the guesthouse is really great if you want to be on your own!

It is a little difficult to get there with a motorbike and your luggage!! stairs up to the house! and when it’s dark it is not so comfortable if you are a solo traveler.

This is the best place to stay on Siquijor Island! The view is absolutely beautiful! (especially the sunsets)The host Kevin and his wife Beth are the greatest people ever, they are incredibly kind and thoughtful! Kevin gave great advice about what to see and do on the Island as well. The place is clean and the surroundings are very peaceful. It was hard to leave because we enjoyed it soo much there. I can't wait to come back and stay at Shambala Paradise again! Thanks Kevin and Beth! It was a pleasure to meet you both.
