Guest house was spacious and nicely decorated Franschhoek itself is a lovely place Friendly housemaid

No management present in guesthouse for our entire stay; we were told that the previous manager had left for another Schutte family hotel weeks before & her replacement hadn't arrived yet No welcome or information provided on our late arrival; the housemaid seemed (probably quite rightly) keen to depart with her children No safe in room (as stated) so we were moved into another room We felt very concerned about security Incorrect internet password provided & gardener finally contacted to obtain wifi. Management seemed not even be accessible the evening of our arrival We had to find keys and close shutters ourselves Alone in a very large large guest house apart from friendly housemaid at breakfast - & when she was ordered to go to guesthouse the night before our departure to collect our keys after we escalated concerns to the CEO. She had to bring her 3 year-old daughter and seemed very stressed. We felt we were being evicted after overhearing a conversation with her Cupboards dusty & pool with algae and cumbersome cleaning equipment This felt like the most expensive and worst treatment and customer service of any accommodation we have stayed in anywhere The CEO said we should have paid on arrival, but we were not advised of this; no mention or means of payment on arrival No possibility of a check out beyond 10am, even though the housemaid told us there were no guests for days Taxes were added to final amount stated on Booking.com & initially no printing facility for proof of payment/ receipt available
