Uchihan

Wonderful family-run guest house close to a ski lift and ski rentals. It's a bit out of the main section of town, but that means it is lovely and quiet. It is located next to one of the largest public onsens. We got the deluxe breakfast every day, and it was great, no complaints! Also had their shabu shabu/hot pot one evening, which was very generous in size and delicious. The service was good, and they helped us answer many questions.

A stay at traditional Japanese accommodation was a highlight of our holiday. Run by a lovely and exceptionally welcoming family, Uchihan is a fantastic place to stay in beautiful Nozawaonsen. The location to ski lifts was exceptional, just a few minute walk up the street. Also conveniently located across the road is a ski hire shop so you can get what gear you need as soon as you arrive. I recommend the breakfast option at Uchihan, that was really good and there is an abundance of restaurants and cafes close by to choose from. There is also the option to have dinner at Uchihan if you can't be bothered going out, which was very nice. The hotel also has its own onsen. Very relaxing after a day skiing. Loved our stay at Uchihan, even sleeping on futons in one room as a family of 4 was a great bonding experience! Loved every moment of our time here. We even had the privilege to attend the annual Fire Festival.

Good comfort food, amazing location and value.

Tight spaces, not built for tall people, not even a chair inside the room. But I understand.....

Overall, the experience was excellent. The owner and staff were all very friendly, and the breakfast served every day was delicious. The location is also fantastic: about a 15-minute walk to onsen street, and only a 4-minute walk to Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort Lift No. 19 (which is amazing).

The tatami mats in the room were not very clean. The biggest drawback was that the Wi-Fi provided by the accommodation was very unstable and almost unusable.
