Hostal el Alebrije

Great staff, wonderful spirit. I enjoyed the breakfast, and also the nice roof terrace! Lovely place to stay, and the location is great. Super value for money.

The room I stayed in had no windows and poor ventilation. After a trip to the bathroom, the room felt suffocating, and we were only 3 people (in a room for 6). After the first night I wanted to keep the door open, but this is not ideal either due to sound from the reception and kitchen.

+ The breakfast was good, feshly made and filling. They usually serve the main meal (e.g. omlette, tacos dorados, sandwich) and some fruits. + The terrace is super cool and chill. + As it is a small hostel, the kitchen and the dishes were looking better maintained than in other hostels. + They were offering potable water for cooking and drinking

Location

Room space is differ from published, its up to 5m2 for 6 beds. Actually there's no adequate ventilation as well, low ceilings. Just a small cabins. Do not recommend this hostel, better to find another one.

Really appreciate this hostel.. It makes it affordable to visit this very cool town. I really enjoyed exploring and hiking the mountains and to waterfalls, I never had to take a taxi to spend several days in nature. The town itself is bustling and has great food and energy. I was happy to get to know the attentive staff and other travelers staying, everyone was great. At first the shared room concerned me with no window or ventilation because I can get claustrophobic, but I got used to it. The more I became friendly with the people sharing the room the more comfortable I felt, and the hostel really facilitates that friendliness we want to experience but isn't always there. I had a single room which was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was big and clean and there was hot water in the shower. Staff was friendly and the hostel is within walking distance to the bus terminal and city centre. It also has a nice rooftop with a view of the lake.

Breakfast was very basic. They overcharge for the tour to the butterfly sanctuary. I recommend that you contact other agencies and you will find better prices. The stairs going up to my room were super narrow and not convenient at all if you're carrying luggage. Also, the bathroom ceiling was low and I hit my head a couple of times.

It's a really nice hostel. Because it's so cosy it's perfect to socialize. Everything is nearby and the view from the terrace is amazing ❤️
