Mackólak Vendégház és Ökoporta

PuspokSzentLorinc is about 5km north of Hosszuheteny: the road from Hosszuhetenty is a track, not a metalled road, but I don't think it would be a problem in wet weather. Gabor is a lovely host, very friendly, he doesn't speak English at all, but I have enough Hungarian to get by. The room was classic Hungarian panzio, with shared cooking facilities and food storage. Breakfast is available if requested, but no evening meals. If you want beer/ wine etc (or food) then take it with you. Room was spotlessly clean. The panzio/ pension is in the middle of some beautiful walking country, including the Zengovar, the highest point in the Mecsek: the views are incredible, well worth the walk up the hill, not forgetting the climb up the viewing tower. Lots of marked footpaths in the surrounding forest. On the edge of Hosszuheteny is a bar, which serves burgers, pizza etc, a 5 minute drive, so obtaining supper was not an issue. There are also 2 restaurants in Hosszuheteny, one, The Tanyer, is very expensive by Hungarian standards, be warned they only do a sampling menu, (which I visited, it was just possibly the best meal I have ever eaten in Hungary). There is also a standard etterem. Would I go back there ? certainly.
