Hostal Gastrobar Carmelo

Handy place for an overnight stop when driving along the A3. Easy to park outside. Busy town, so easy to find food and a drink.

I booked this because it is a "gastrobar" and the food looks very good on the website. However it turns out the restaurant closes at 5pm, so had to go somewhere else to eat (which the owner helpfully recommended)

For the price it was ok

The bathroom was small, the bed was uncomfortable and the room (seemingly the norm in Spain) was noisy and you could hear everything going on the next room. The bar/bistro was actually very nice but, in the winter, only open on a Friday and Saturday, and then only from 10 am. Being Good Friday, with very little else open at a reasonable time, this was a problem if you rely on your morning coffee

The room was excellent, clean, comfortable beds and lovely en suite shower room. For an overnight stop it is well located a short distance from the autovia. We arrived later than our scheduled time but the owner arrived very quickly and made sure we had settled in before leaving.

It is very difficult to find on-street parking nearby but we were late and there was a local fiesta. The bar was closed so we were unable to get a coffee. And next time we'll request a room on the 1st floor!

The staff were very very friendly and helpful even although we didn’t speak Spanish and they didn’t speak but English. The could not have been more welcoming or nice we had a lovely evening meal in their restaurant was fabulous

We had the last room available and it was ok going back in September so hopefully get a better room

Perfect location, the room is basic but comfortable. The members of staff are pleasant. I definitely would go back to this hostal.

When we checked in we were told we had to leave the room before 12:00. At 11:30 and 11:45 there was someone knocking at the door while we were trying to get ready. In the meantime the power went off several times (it was at least in our street not the hostal) and we couldn't get ready as there is no window in the bathroom....in the end we left 3 minutes before 12 but it was a stressful departure.
